i think peat and dgb are our only realistic chances.

i'd put peat as most likely though, he constantly has mentioned interest to play early in any interview i've seen from him, and we're fielding 18 true freshman and will have no experience next year at LT with allen a senior. having gray/brown RB combo doesn't hurt either, any OL worth his weight in salt prefers to run block. gotta love NU and FSU having bad starts to season too.

agholor / theus are longshots at best. i think davis/collins are pipe dreams. although early PT at texas could be considered lure, pulling guys out of SEC hard, especially guys looking at LSU/Bama and play D.

if you watched 'the opening' or film of agholor/collins this is not easy pill to swallow. guys are freak players - i can't imagine either not getting on field as freshman for texas under any cir stances.

The "offensive genius" Charlie Weis was exposed against Alabama, and I hope Agholor took notice. I strongly believe that Harsin would utilize Agholor better than Weis. I think Weis will prove to be a bad hire for Florida.
I deleted my original comment because I thought Brantley was out for the year, but it's just rumors at this point. Anyway, I've been waiting for the Weis experiment to go wrong since he was hired by Muschamp. Things will get interesting now that a true freshman who hasn't been prepared to play has to lead Florida for the next few weeks (possibly the rest of the season).

The Hook 'Em 24/7 staff has been hearing today that ATH Daje Johnson of Pflugerville Hendrickson is being recruited by Texas for the offensive side of the ball as an all-purpose type. This is a good indication that the recruitment of ATH Daniel Brooks is all but on its last leg. We'll have to wait until tonight to see what the staff tells Johnson and if they will offer him a scholarship.

even though he and agholor are longshots, obvious why we are still pursuing them both.

Still nothing on ATH Daje Johnson. He's not talking for the time being apparently. Hopefully he was offered last night and he just needs time to discuss everything with his family. It's also possible he wants to talk with the TCU coaches before anything goes public.

Wonderful thread TFloss. Ive been following for a while and ive seen accurate credible info mixed with strong opinions followed by good feedback. Good stuff.

I realize that agholor, collins, torshiro davis are serious longshots which is disappointing considering the film ive seen of these guys. Im most disappointed by possibly missing out on Collins. With the overwhelmingly need at safety and the athleticism displayed on the the film of Collins (posted by the chronic) makes u wish we were in a better place with the kid. But i know this is a big weekend for texas recruiting. But do u thing we have any legitimate chance in swaying Mario Edwards or is he just enjoying the recruiting process?

I for one have thought that Daje Johnson is a better option then Daniel brooks for a while. Daje is more willing to contribute at cornerback or wherever he is needed. He has the performance at the Nike sparq compe ion and the NFL bloodline. I also feel like he will be alot easier to sway than Daniel, who is proving to be loyal to his commitment.

Thanks. Welcome aboard. We've got a good mix here.

Texas could start by winning the RRR this weekend and he's said he'll get to Austin for an official visit, but it's hard for me to imagine him decommitting from FSU despite his looking around because his father played for the Noles. Even if he did decide to flip his commitment to another school, I'm not sure Texas will get the first look. He's talked pretty favorably about OU for a while now and it's the only school (other than FSU) he's visited since committing to FSU back in March. Losing Muschamp hurt this recruitment. If UT continues to win, things will fall into place with a lot of talented guys.

Both of those guys would be an asset to Harsin's offense, but I do like Daje better as well. I agree that he could end up being the better take because he's not as picky about positions. I think he'd be an excellent all-purpose back that doesn't need a lot of touches to be successful, he'd serve as a great decoy when called upon (much like Monroe has been this year), he'd help with special teams or he'd be a fine DB.

Minor Daje Johnson update...per OrangeBloods this morning, his high school coach is not yet aware if UT extended a scholarship offer last night. Things are still quiet. Like I said, it could be a good thing that there's no news because the Johnson family doesn't want anything to go public before speaking with the TCU staff. Everything I've read says Johnson is likely to switch his commitment when/if he's offered by Texas. An interesting "in" that UT has with Johnson, Darrell Wyatt roomed with his father, Clyde Johnson, at Kansas State. Dude knows everybody.

he's having serious 2nd thoughts and i believe namely b/c of distance being a factor. his father mentioned that being close to home became a concern and they wanted to hit some OU games (Denton closer to Norman than Austin). they went to missouri game in norman already. but also of note he didn't go to FSU/OU game b/c of his homecoming.

tfloss is right about seminoles still being huge favorite though.

as far as texas, i'm not holding my breath. he already visited and made statements that he 'has already visited austin' and picked FSU. i think it would take a major victory against OU to get back into the race (he will be at RRR). also of note they haven't made statements as positive about texas as OU for certain. but i do believe we will get a visit, which would be huge.

another thing of note, he mentioned that FSU said he could play DE even if he ballooned up to 300lbs. he said they were only school that adamant about that point - where other schools like texas said if he kept gaining weight he would be moved inside.

some articles below on subject that are free:

    --------------

    http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/high-...ing-with-ut-ou

"I let Florida State know that other teams are interested in me, and that I want to continue to look around," Edwards told ESPN.com's Mitch Sherman. "But Florida State is still my team, my No. 1 team."

    ---------------------

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/re...looking-around

Denton (Texas) Billy Ryan defensive end Mario Edwards, No. 1 in the ESPNU 150 and committed to Florida State since March, continues to look at several other schools, notably Oklahoma.

The intensity of the Oklahoma players, especially for a summer drill without coaches in attendance, captured his attention. Largely, it's why Edwards wants to take another look at the Sooners.

believe i already posted quotes previously, but his father made statements not long ago that mario didn't like fact it would be difficult for friends and family to make it to games in florida and it was major concern. and then stated they would be foolish not to look at #1 team in country (OU at time) for that reason. there was lots of very positive quotes about how great OU is and if i were a sooner i would have been pumped up.

since then i haven't seen any statements positive like that about texas, just news about us getting possible visit and he will be at RRR.

A good reason why I don't think Texas gets the first look if he decommits from FSU, but there is a long way to go until National Signing Day. UT just needs to keep winning or at the very least continue to show that they're steadily improving and serious about getting back to where they were. They got a little too fat and happy from all their previous success.

if we pull off upset and beat OU and/or win 10 games, i would not write off any of the recruits, even those from SEC land.

never write-off how much recruits want to play their freshman year. if we play 18 true freshman and have that kind of success any 5-star recruit will listen.

More on ATH Daje Johnson...he's still not speaking to reporters and his father also isn't talking other than saying he won't get into the specifics of his son's recruitment and will let Daje speak for himself when he's ready. When asked if his son was given a scholarship offer by UT last night, he had this to say:

"If he can continue to do what he has to do in the classroom and do what he has to do on the football field, everything will take care of itself," Mr. Johnson said. "He's 17, almost 18 years old. It's his life. I'm just here to support him."

What do you guys think went down?

notice how a lot of the guys that leave camps without offers often say texas coaches tell them to keep working hard and their work will pay off and an offer may be on the way if they keep plugging away... seems to blend with quote above.

Sounds like Mizzou is going to attempt to leave the Big XII. Their Board of Curators met this afternoon and granted the university president the power to to seek other conference options. Mizzou's president resigned from the Big XII Expansion Committee shortly after that.

According to Hook 'Em 24/7's sources this morning, there wasn't any reason for them believe anything negative went down on Monday night. Let's just hope there's an offer in hand and the Johnson family wants to keep it quiet for now. I will say that's it interesting simply based on the fact that some guys will go completely silent before making a decision. I could be totally wrong, but it feels like Johnson would have no problem talking if UT hadn't given him something to think about.
