Hard Knocks starts tonight at 9 CT
Great first episode. I want to hear O'Brien do Baldwin's speech from Glengarry Glen Ross.
I thought the 1st episode was great. I have always been a fan of the show.
Ryan Cliett tore his ACL.
Really enjoyed the episode. J.J. Watt was beasting. Good to see Hopkins take advantage of DeAngelo Hall. Can't stand that guy.
Just got finished watching the first episode...
Pretty safe to say J.J. Watt is my new favorite player in the NFL.
As a side note, getting drunk with Vrabel in some hole in the ground bar is officially on the bucket list.![]()
Jalen Strong just caught his 1st TD pass from Tom Savage against the 49ers!!!![]()
It's only preseason, yet Alfred Blue still sucks.
He looked ok on the first drive with the 1's...but I'm still worried about the RB by committee thing.
Roles will be reversed next week. Mallett will start and Hoyer will play with the 2's.
Both Hoyer and Mallet looked OK. Tom Savage looked impressive against the 3rd and 4th stringers.
im still completely baffled with how Houston has treated their QB situation these past couple of years
fitzpatrick and hoyer have been their "solutions"
ok, but what would you have done in their place. I mean it's easy to laugh them off and i do like to do that too, but i'm not really sure how i would have approached the situation. I sure as wouldn't have drafted interception and sack master manziel, or checkdown game manager professor bridgewater..
I would have probably traded for glennon or mettemberger i guess..
Traded for Mallett tbh. Hoyer will be the backup.
Like you said, it has been lose/lose as far as options go thus far. O'Brien has shown patience and in the meantime has built the defense into one of the best in the league. A name that is being left out/forgotten by many is Tom Savage. He was drafted as a project but has made tremendous strides in one season and has received high praise during camp. He looked to be in complete control in the first preseason game. I think if Mallett doesn't step up and really show himself worthy of a long term deal Savage could wind up being the guy next year.
So far everything I hear coming out of camp is that Hoyer has the inside track on the starting job. If true, I wonder what the coaches are seeing in Mallet that doesn't translate in to him getting the starting nod. Savage looked good in the first preseason game and impressive during camp, but its wishful thinking if we expect him to be anything but a 3rd string qb this season.
That's the book on Hoyer. Practice superstar, on the field. We will see. Mallett will run with the 1's this week against Denver, so hopefully he shows something that really separates himself.
I don't expect Savage to be anything more than a third stringer either this year, but with his improvement it's not a stretch to say that he might make the leap going into next season...especially if neither of the current two show anything special.
Man I love O'Brien. Dude really is a throwback coach.
Interesting thing I noticed about the QB's(my cousin mentioned this last week but I just really picked up on it today)...Hoyer seems to act like he wants to be the QB more than Mallett. The team responds better to him in huddles too. Mallett seems to have a very en led way about him...like he already has the job locked up. Hoyer's almost the polar opposite, at times acting like he's an unguaranteed player that's just excited to be there being given a chance.
Not sure how I feel about either one of these two gots now. I don't trust Hoyer and Mallett doesn't seem to be stepping and and taking the opportunity that's being give to him. ing .
Starting to feel like the defense is going to have to stay healthy and seriously some up for this team to make the playoffs.
I think either Mallet or Savage will be the guy long term.
