Colbert did grow up a fan of UT and said he was going to try and run track for the Horns if he didn't start receiving attention for football. He could get his wish really soon.
Monday morning notes from Hook 'Em 24/7...
**Most exciting news is Texas may have found their safety for the 2012 class. ATH Adrian Colbert of Mineral Wells, who committed to Baylor last week and is considered a "soft verbal", may get a UT offer pretty quickly. He attended TCU's game this past Saturday and Texas A&M is also hot on his trail. He's the current 3A 400M champion and he will run right through you on the football field. No word yet on what his interest in UT may be, but his stock is rising quickly. See his film below:

**Speaking of safeties, Duane Akina was in Louisiana this weekend attending the game of DB Landon Collins. Nothing new to report there but Collins is still expected to make an official visit to UT.
**In addition to 2013 WR Jake Oliver, Darrell Wyatt went to Forth Worth to see the game of 2013 OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson. He also got a chance to see 2013 ATH Robbie Rhodes of Forth Worth Southwest.
**DE Mario Edwards of Denton Ryan did not make his official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend as he had previously planned. He decided to take his ACT instead but is expected to re-schedule and still take an official visit to LSU.
**To give you an idea of 2013 OL Kent Perkins' feelings on UT, here is another quote from him when he knew Stacy Searels was at his game:
"When I saw he was here, I told myself that I had to make this my best pregame ever,” Perkins said. “I felt like I did. I was hyped. I really wanted to show him that I'm the type of player who can play at a school like Texas.”
“I want to stay in Texas,” Perkins said. “So my focus is going to be on schools in the state.”

Here's more on 2013 WR Robbie Rhodes of Fort Worth Southwest. He had a game for the ages two weeks ago; 10 catches, 394 yards, 8 TDs.

DB Adrian Phillips will miss the Kansas game because of his shoulder injury against OSU.
Some quotes from OT John Theus after his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend:
"I really enjoyed my visit and it was a great time," the 6-5, 305-pound The Bolles School player told BlueandGold.com while boarding a flight back home. "I got to interact with a lot of the players and really felt at home with them."
"The coaches were all great and so were the fans," he added. "Of course the atmosphere at the game was amazing."
"This trip has really given me something to think about in my college decision," Theus concluded.
Some recent quotes from OL Greg Brantley of Carthage:
“I’m a solid commitment to Oklahoma State,” Brantley said. “I’m 100%.”
“Oklahoma and Texas are still trying. I take calls from time to time, but don’t pay them any mind,” he said.
“I’m going to visit Oklahoma State again, but no one else after that,” he said.
Take, take. Do it now Duane.
Akina has called Colbert's coach for film and transcripts.
Bryan Harsin has invited QB/ATH Jalen Overstreet to the Kansas game this weekend. If he can't make it for some reason, he has an invitation to attend the Texas Tech and K-State games as well.
Some more quotes from OL Donald Hawkins after receiving his UT offer:
"Coach Searels is a friend of one my coaches. They both coached at Georgia together. The conversation came up that they needed a tackle, and he had called coach Fabris," Hawkins said. "He had some film and coach Searels liked what he saw."
"(Searels) relayed a message, asked if I would be interested in Texas. He got my number, we ended up talking. He wanted to come to my game, get some face action and asked if I would be interested. I didn't know much about Texas other than Texas doesn't offer many Juco players. So when they offered me that was a shock."
"I kind of knew they might offer me. If he wasn't interested, he wouldn't come from Austin, Texas to scout me at the game," Hawkins said. "Every time I came off the field, I was holding up my fingers for how many pancakes I had and he'd smile.
"After the game, he called my o-line coach and told me to call him. My coach told me I got the offer and when I talked to him that he officially offered me. He told me the head coach, Mack Brown, okayed it."
"I'm thinking Texas (for an official visit) and the other one, I'm kind of deciding between Georgia and Florida," Hawkins said. "I need to talk to the coaches. I want to go in and play early so I need to see who really needs me."
Quotes from DB Landon Collins after Duane Akina attended his game on Friday:
“Coach Akina and I have been talking for a while,” Collins said Monday night. “He told me he would be coming down and he did, so it was cool. We talked a little and then he headed back home.”
“They have a shot at me because they have everything I’m looking for. Texas has put a lot of players in the NFL and they are a very good university in broadcasting,” he said.
“My first one (official visit) is to Alabama November 5 for the LSU-Alabama game. I’ll also take visits to Texas, LSU, Florida and Tennessee probably,” he said.

i'm glad we have searels on board, he seems like a recruiting beast and the players seem to like him. nice to see some fire from the OL coach for a change and a more aggressive recruiting philosophy.

ND could be moving their non-football sports to the Big XII. Although those "quitters" aren't even looking all that attractive in football right now either.![]()

Per Hook 'Em 24/7, the UT staff is getting close to offering DT Tomme Mark of Lufkin. Nothing solid to report other than that but Bo Davis has been staying in close contact.

**A new name will be on the visitors list this weekend. Bruce Chambers has invited Mesquite Horn's TE, Vincent Hobbs, to the Kansas game this weekend and he's expected to make it in. Things are strictly in evaluation mode at this time and it's possible that Hobbs is being looked at as a DE prospect as well.

**Quick quote from DT Tomme Mark of Lufkin about UT pursuing him:
"Oh man, they'd be up there (with an offer). They'd be No. 1," Mark said. "That would be a great opportunity. The program is out of this world. The TV network they've got, I watch it sometimes. One of my teachers gets it and I go over there and watch it."
Let's get the visitors list started for the Kansas game:
TE, Vincent Hobbs, Mesquite Horn
LB, Tim Cole, Brenham
DT, Malcom Brown, Brenham
ATH, Daje Johnson, Pflugerville Hendrickson
------------------------------------------
TE, Ricky Seals-Jones, Sealy <------ family is staying the weekend
ATH, Chevoski Collins, Livingston
Arik Armstead quotes from ND visit, note the reference to the defense they run:
“I had a real good time,” Armstead said. “I fit in really well there, and I think Notre Dame is definitely a school I can see myself at. I had some questions coming in and they were all answered. I got to know the coaching staff better and that was important, and I loved the game day atmosphere. It was electric in there and when all the recruits walked in to the stadium, the fans started going crazy and everyone knew who we were.
“Everyone was waving towels and was really in to the game. Coach [Brian] Kelly said one of the things he wanted to do was get the fans louder and more involved, and I think that was definitely the case. I watched the defensive line closely and they run both a 4-3 and a 3-4. They have some good young lineman but they’re not afraid to play freshman and I think I would have a good shot to come in and play right away and that’s important.”
