Agree generally but Atlanta should be top 6 and free from the play-ins. The East is going to be so bad, even with an improving Detroit, etc.
Imo Cleveland, Boston (even without Tatum), New York, Indiana, MIL (think they will pull something out of their ass), Detroit, Orlando, Healthy Philly, and Miami with Durant will all be better than a healthy Hawks.

Not even counting the Bulls if they don't finally tank this season.

The Hawks will be in purgatory with Trae, don't see a big jump from Risacher yet and JJ can't stay healthy.

Nobody knows the spurs offer for sure. Maybe they like this draft. They said as much after the lottery. Brian Wright and Mitch Johnson both said it’s a deep draft. Maybe the spurs are not offering 14

Maybe it’s salary filler Vassell + whatever and 2029 top 20 protected 1st. That would be similar to that the spurs got back for kawhi leonard. Similar situation. Maybe the spurs view themselves as the market setters for 1-year rental disgruntled superstars. They could argue that kawhi was in his prime even if there were questions about his injury. Or perhaps it’s the hawks pick in 2027 lottery protected.

Or perhaps the Spurs are pissed that their offer leaked from the Suns side and they don’t like their players being dragged through the rumors. So they pulled their offer.

Something is up. Maybe the spurs have other deals in the works they like better but they are holding out because they want the suns to crawl back with a desperate offer.

Regardless of what happened if I’m the spurs I’m not dealing with their anymore. Time to move on. If Durant is still available after the draft maybe they can revisit. I’m not picking a good prospect for the suns though. If they ask for whoever the spurs draft after the fact they can rot

Others have mentioned it, but it’s just so damn crazy to go from Lamarcus Aldridge and an expired Michael Finley being the only marquee free agent signings of the entire Duncan era to Fox and KD doing the same within a span of months for a 21 year old Wemby.

    Don't get Durant.

I don't want to be trying to win a le with a 39 or 40 year old Durant playing key minutes because you know he's going to sign that extension after one year.

Technically Fox and KD are trades and not free agents, but you still have a point. Nowadays it's far more common for a big name player to change teams via trade instead of free agency.

Damn, a top 30 player/top 5-8 PG forced his way to the Spurs just months ago. And now KD (yeah I get he's old but he's still KD and his numbers are still that) is out and about blocking all deals that aren't Spurs related.

The Wemby effect is real ladies and gents.
Are we sure it’s not the Mitch Johnson effect?

Amick now saying durant’s public list including houston and Miami is bologna. It’s just San Antonio on his list
I've been saying this for over 2 weeks

We’re lucky they are Texas boys also! Just like how it was when LMA signed here.
True. that might be more than the Wemby effect, nonetheless though good for us.

    Hollinger:
I think this is just a classic Phoenix show. They thought they were gonna get stronger offers than they’re getting, and now they don’t really know what to do.
    Duncan:
Do you think they just don’t trade him?
    Hollinger:
I think it’s an option. They’re not required to. The only thing is he has one year left on his deal — he can be a free agent after the year — so he has some leverage. For Phoenix to walk away with nothing from KD is a tough one.
They still have this idea that they can probably contend for something, I guess? I don’t know how realistic they are at this point. Obviously they should tear it down, but it doesn’t seem like that’s what they’re doing.
    Sounds about right.

    Never thought about this

Neither KD nor Fox wanted to come to SA until Mitch was the coach

You guys yelled at me when I said that Phoenix not trading Durant was a clear option for them.

It’s absolutely not. They don’t have their picks so they will continue to be out of luck.

They have a number of options, good and bad. Not trading him falls into the latter category. How is it better to get nothing when he walks? You’re also pissing off the agency with the second most NBA players represented behind Klutch.

They have nothing to gain by keeping KD.
They aren't a legit playoff team, he'll be putting in minimal effort and then they'll get even less at the trade deadline.
Not to mention that it will ruin their reputation with the players.

Pretty much. Of course they don’t “have” to trade Durant, but how does keeping him possibly favor the Suns? KD is clearly pissed at their FO and wants out. High likelihood that malcontent bleeds into the locker room and/or his effort. Best case scenario he still goes and balls out, and then they trade him at the deadline…but then their return will be even worse than the offers they’re getting now.

Keeping Durant would just be being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn. There’s no actual benefit of that route aside from Ishbia being able to feel like he “won” vs. KD.

Nah that's way better than what the Spurs got in the Kawhi trade considering they also had to send out a still top 5 perimeter defender in Danny Green.
