    Umm...they played the Royals.

Still, the area has a LONG way to go with regard to support for their team. It's a sad thing, but there just isn't that much support for a team that has never won more than 70 games in its short 10yr history and has one of the lowest payrolls annually. But, if the Rays keep winning and aren't afraid to spend a little bit ($50M is a big improvement over $20), the fans will come around.

Bottom Line: I expect the Rays to be contenders for at least the next 3 or 4 years, and somehwere in that timeframe fan support is definitely going to turn around.

Portland wouldn't go to the games.

Memphis supports the Redbirds but nothing great.

    Tampa Bay will be fine.

Once they make a semi big name trade, they will be fine.

I would love to have an MLB team in San Antonio. I would have season tickets no matter how ty they are. those Tampa fans. They don't deserve a team.

I'd love a team in SA just like you, but I don't think San Antonio is in any better position than the city of Tampa Bay to handle an MLB franchise. It takes alot of money and a ground-swell of support to fill up a major league stadium for 162 games.

And, depending on the ownership I doubt the club would be spending $150M a year, which is what it would take to stay relevant. The only reason the Rays are relevant at this point is because they spent the first 10 years in the basement of the AL East and some of their prospects are finally starting to pan out.

Bottom Line: San Antonio is in no way a better area to host an MLB franchise than Tampa.

Besides, if the roles were reversed I sincerely doubt you would spend $20 or $30 on a day game to watch your team get -slapped all over the field.

I doubt Portland would support the team unless they won. However, with their current makeup they would be a huge draw.

Florida was a spring training state for too many years. They don't have the attention span to have major league teams.
