I Agree 100%
In my opinion, this is the best Spur team in franchise history.
They just destroy the teams that they play and are expected to win every game that they play.
When has that ever been the case with a Spur team?
If we don't win the championship this year, it would be a HUGE letdown![]()
I Agree 100%
yeah, I don't think I would go so far as to say the best EVER, just defenitely one of the best. Plus you never want to put extra pressure on our players.
time will tell. frankly the frontcourt is still a little bit weak. perhaps healthy doses of malik once hes out of the doghouse and massenburg will change that. i liked what i saw against seattle earlier this week in the paint. maybe thats what happens when your starting center's name is massenburg and not nesterovic.
barry has found his groove, another good sign. but to win their 2nd le in 3 years the spurs are going to need healthy doses of rose and massenburg up front. i have zero faith in nesterovic and horry in any kind of physical playoff series.
We are definitely as strong as we've ever been in my lifetime. That said, we also have the ability to cause our own downfall, which can be disconcerting.
We have no Elie, Robinson, Kerr or Elliott this season. The playoffs are all about clutch and that is where we will see if we can stand up and be clutch.
I think the odds are good.
at the end of the season everything but a championship will be a failure according to some spurs fans.
I think I'll avoid this board if we fail, coz we placed so much hope in this year's trophy that if we don't get it,many will be SAAAAAAAD,so SAAAAAAAAAD

Best team in franchise history?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
o everyone,
I am a Spurs fan living in Paris since Tp was drafted in 2001,
I would like to know if the current spurs team is better than the spurs of 1999 and 2003, it' s difficult to compare Elliot and ginobili or Parker and Avery Johnson but I really enjoy watching the spurs on tv with manu doing his crazy things and TP blowing out defenses.
PS: excuse-me for my poor english
Well, funny that one month after there is another tread about this, I hope we will see another one after the final game.
i'm sorry i don't know clearly about the history except for the 2 championships.
we all believe that spurs would win the championship at last and the players must trust themselves, but i think we needn't always refer that.much more pressure is not good to them, and so it's with us.every team is not easy to beat, especially in the play-offs.time will tell.we just need cheer for them.
They're defintely one of the better Spurs team, but I'm not going to say best ever with anything less than a championship.
One of the Best
99: D-Rob, TD and S Elliot
2005: TD, TP and MG
But in the Middle there were a Championship
TD, D-Rob, TP, MG, Steve Kerr, S-Jax, BB
It´s impossible to know who is the Best
Like wich was the Better Bulls, 91-92-93 or 96-97-98
"The playoffs define a team."
But not totally. Without a decent season, a (WC) team won't make the playoffs.
Once in the playoffs, a playoff team may crank up its level of play, but it won't become a totally different team and playing style from the season team.
And the season peformance is a fairly accurate predictor of le winners. Cinderella teams that win the NBA from 8th or lower W-L ranking are rare, but I don't have numbers.
Does anybody know of a histogram that shows how many les have been one per end-of-season W-L ranking?
I believe it's the best Spurs team that I've seen...playoffs is indeed the measure of a team...no one remembers the reg season anyways....it's all about the rings....
I think you can say the Bulls team that won 70 games was the best of Jordans team, with fairness; they steamrolled the league that year, and the championship was a given clearly.
The Spurs team that lost 2 games in the playoffs was dominant in a way that this team cannot surpass unless they have similar effectiveness at that important hour. The 95 spurs were very close to as dominant as this team; Sean was at an AS level, Rodman was a dominant defensive player, and Robinson had a better year than Duncan is having at this time, and they got rolled in the playoffs and became the best regular season spurs team IMO. The second best regular season spurs team was during the Laker's dominant postseason 3 years ago...
A great regular season does NOT a championship make. It is both about how we finish and how we do in the playoffs; we have at least 2 examples of great regular season spurs teams that were exposed or out-clutched in the playoffs.
So to answer, this is a GREAT regular season Spurs team; to rank them all-time Spurs team we need to see how they finish.
"A great regular season does NOT a championship make"
Of course not, but a (Spurs) team in 7th or 8th playoff seed winning the le is extremely rare. I think there was only one Cinderella team in the 90's, and none since. Some NBA historian can confirm.
One of my motivations for my recent take of "Spurs road record against TopTeams" was that the 03 championship team had the league's best road record, esp after Christmas, and that season road toughness was repeated in the 03 playoffs as the Spurs close out 3 series on the road.
But the 04 team was only 4-7, IIRC, on the road against Top teams, after Christmas. I was looking for something in the 04 season record that might have foreshadowed the incredible Spurs collapse against the Lakers.

Sequ thinks this team sucks.
I still say the '99 championship team was the best. That was the last time the Twin Towers truly dominated their positions, and they crushed teams in the playoffs.
I liked the team with Derek Anderson and can only imagine what would have happened if Juwan Howard hadn't injured him.
After the first two games of the 95 team I thought in person that was the best ever, but stuff happens. Now this team has a chance.
I would like them to go 64-66 wins and at least dominate the playoffs instead of 4 and 2 all series like last championship. Won't be easy don't under-estimate the Mavs, Suns and Sonics and ultimetely Heat or Pistons (Say goodby Pacers/Wolves - what is happening to those two?).
65 and a 16 and 1-6 record would mark this as perhaps the greatest team then if they repeated = A LOCK. I will be a happy personally though if they just get a 3rd ring!
I agree with those who say the '99 team was one of the era's weakest championship team - which, of course, puts them above everybody else, anyway. They're like the first Patriots Superbowl team - good, but they'd field a better team later.
This is one of the top 3 of all time and with our depth and our Defense to win the you are going to have to go through the Spurs and I dont see anyone doing that
The team in bold was probably one of the best two teams of all time, and clearly better than any other Bulls team.Like wich was the Better Bulls, 91-92-93 or 96-97-98
I don't remember but I know that the TWolves lost in the first round that year, which they won't do this year because they won't make the Playoffs.
I think we punked some twerps from Minny before suc bing to the eventual champions.Back in 2001. What happened to your beloved Spurs then hmmn ?![]()
The teams are nothing alike. Other than AJ and Porter, who rarely played together, SA had no ball handlers and lot's of elder statesmen in key roles.
When they are good, they are very, very good. But when they are bad, they are horrid. The Spurs have never been this good
I think there have to have been Spurs teams that look better than this one. Despite their great record, they have some just atrocious, ugly games. After losing in Sacramento in early January, they had a stretch of games that, though they were winning ... and handily most nights, they didn't look like a very good basketball team.
I want to see some more crisp ball movement, aggressive, step-on-their-throats and put 'em away type of games before annointing them the best Spurs team ever.
