Well crap, so am I.
for what everyone else is getting paid, he is definitely worth it.
12.5 million is way too much for a player who is no more than a 2nd or 3rd option on a team. 10 million a season is enough and all he should get, if he doesnt like it show him the door. We offered him 57 million in 5 years last year (thats roughly 11.4) million a year, the big assumption, is that Pax will offer him less than the original offer from last year, that given last year's results and Lou's subpar performance, he may be offered 9 to 10 mill per year.
I could see 12.5 for Iggy or Josh Smith, maybe Okafor, but Deng? Are you kidding me? What has he done to justify that? Yes, you get crazy contracts for some players, but you get "value" contracts for others, and given the Bulls cap restraints, if they are going to be a good team, they need to give less oversized contracts (see Hinrich, Kirk; Noccioni, Andres) and play some darn hardball.

Maggette just got $10 million a year, so $12.5 per for Deng isn't all that unreasonable now.
stats wise maggette > deng
Maggette has a huge advantage in getting to the line, but his stats are a bit inflated from getting all of Brand's looks. Deng still has lots of upside, and is only 23. He's a much better longterm bet than Maggette is.
but Deng's stats are down from the 2007 season so there is still something to worry about
I've watched a lot of Bulls games the past two seasons. He is not worth 12.5 mill a year.
Deng 2006/7 season - worth it
Deng 2007/8 season - not worth it

Damn, he might be worth it to some of you, but ask yourself, would you be happy if your team s ed out 12.5 million for Deng? I would be about as sick as I was on draft night if that happened.
