I just got my commission sheet from the boss and he overpaid me by 200 bucks.

I did a tricky deal structure earlier in the week and showed a customer putting 2,700.00 down but only collected 1,700.00 because the banks wanted to see this guy put 15% down. So I conceded the grand to the guy to close the deal because he couldn't come up with the full 2,700.00. I shouldn't have to do like that for people but the banks are tight in the ass and I wanted some kind of commission for my efforts.

Well the boss paid me as if the deal was the full amount. So he paid me commission on the extra 1k even though I didn't get the full amount.

I thought about it for about 5 minutes and just went and told him he made the mistake. He probably wouldn't have caught it and I should have kept my mouth shut considering the annoy I deal with here but I just got soft and pussied out. I'm gonna regret this next week when my check is 200 less.

    I'm getting soft. Disturbingly soft.

you did it so you could sleep at night not worrying if he'd catch the error...

what would have been the ramifications in that case? he would chew your ass or what?

I would have been shocked if he caught it. It was already filed away and done. No ramifications he would have just taken the 200 out of my next check. We don't have serious ramifications where I work plus its his job to do the payroll not mine. I don't hardly ever look at those sheets anyway but I noticed it was a lot more than I had expected for the deal.

$200 bucks can get you quite a bit of beer.

Or, one hour with an escort.

Either way, you could've had some sort of fun with the $200.

If your boss really likes you, he would've let you have the 200.

You are why I have my job. You jerk!

Only kidding...sort of. That's the same crap that happens with lenders. A little lie here, a little lie there and then they come to me for help with a foreclosure. But instead, for you it's an RV, or something.

Not even close to the same thing. You deal with people who can't afford what they have or have overpaid or been talked into stretching their outer limits. Or worse they got talked into a ARM. So they're 1k payment is now 1500. Thats the real issue and partner that with greedy cities wanting to push property values through the roof and you end up with an entirely different animal altogether.

I'm only helping someone put a little less money down. The payment wasn't more or less, just less down. If they guy was a risk or his debt to income was too high the banks would have simply declined the deal. In this case and the case with most banks is they take the dealer incentive discounts into account so it looks like the advance is too much per the value of the product which it isn't.

That shows what a stand up person you are. As someone who manages over 70 people when someone does something like that I don't forget. Now when the person doesn't say anything and then we find the error I look at that person like a rat.

I won't start an argument today. I have too much to do to be at ST arguing about it. Good job giving the money back. We need more people like you.

The argument would be way more entertaining.

As much as I like you ash I highly doubt you understand the inner workings of finance more than I do.

Character, respect, reputation is priceless in business.

    $200 isn't to ruin that.

I would have sent the money to someone who's poor and starving in Africa. Now it's probably going to go to some bag that'll buy a new flatscreen with it.

You played it safe though, and I can't blame you for that.
