Rest in peace Tony. You were a good man. What a wonderful soft spoken person of great intellect.
I disagreed with Snow's ideas about many things, but he was undoubtedly a man of tremendous conviction, a man possessed of a fabulous intellect, a man who was respectful of "the other side" and willing to listen, and a man who genuinely seemed to appreciate life and its blessings. We don't have enough of those sorts of people in this world.

Former White House spokesman Tony Snow dies
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former White House press secretary Tony Snow -- who once told reporters "I'm a very lucky guy" -- died at the age of 53 early Saturday after a second battle with cancer.
Snow, who had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for a recurrence of the disease, left his White House job September 14, 2007, and joined CNN in April as a conservative commentator.
President Bush said Saturday that he and first lady Laura Bush were "deeply saddened" by Snow's death.
"The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character," the president said in a statement.
"It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day."
Snow's successor, White House press secretary Dana Perino, said, "The White House is so deeply saddened by this loss. He was a great friend and colleague and a fantastic press secretary. And his dear family is in our thoughts and prayers."
In 2007, Chief of Staff Josh Bolten had told senior White House staffers that unless they could commit to staying until Bush leaves office in January 2009, they should leave by Labor Day 2007, so Snow resigned.
In parting comments to reporters at his final White House news conference, Snow said, "I feel great."
He also called the job "the most fun I've ever had."
Snow said he was leaving the White House position to make more money for his family. His White House salary was $168,000.
Snow was first diagnosed with colon cancer in February 2005. His colon was removed, and after six months of treatment, doctors said the cancer was in remission.
A recurrence of the illness was diagnosed 11 months after he began the White House media job, and he underwent five weeks of treatment before resuming his daily briefings to the press corps. He was greeted with applause upon his return.
"Not everybody will survive cancer," Snow told the reporters, "but on the other hand, you have got to realize you've got the gift of life, so make the most of it. That is my view, and I'm going to make the most of my time with you."
Perino announced March 27, 2007, that Snow's cancer had recurred, and said doctors had removed a growth from his abdomen the day before.
Bush tapped Snow to replace Scott McClellan in April 2006.
Snow had been an anchor for "Fox News Sunday" and a political analyst for Fox News Channel, which he joined in 1996. He also hosted "The Tony Snow Show" on Fox News Radio.
Snow took a significant pay cut to take the job of press secretary and talked publicly about the financial sacrifices he made. He explained he felt he needed to make more money to help his family, which included children readying for college.
Snow was known for his candor.
In a November 11, 2005, column, Snow wrote that Bush's "wavering conservatism has become an active concern among Republicans, who wish he would stop cowering under the bed and start fighting back against the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Wilson."
"The newly passive George Bush has become something of an embarrassment," Snow's column said.
"I asked him about those comments," joked the president at the time of Snow's appointment. "And he said, 'You should have heard what I said about the other guy.'"
Bush said Snow's long career as a journalist helped him understand "the importance of the relationship between government and those whose job it is to cover the government."
Robert Anthony Snow was born June 1, 1955, in Berea, Kentucky, and was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was 17, his mother died of colon cancer. She was 38.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Davidson College near Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1977, Snow pursued graduate work in philosophy and economics at the University of Chicago.
He worked as an editorial writer and editor at several newspapers, including The Washington Times and the Detroit News. He wrote a column in Detroit, and later wrote a syndicated column.
Snow joined the administration of Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, in 1991, first as chief speech writer and later as deputy assistant to the president for media affairs.
Snow became a television personality when he launched his news shows on Fox in 1993.
When he returned to work April 30, 2007, after the second cancer diagnosis, a usually articulate and loquacious Snow stumbled to find words.
"You never anticipate this stuff," he said. "It just happens."
"I want to thank you all. It really meant the world to me. Anybody who does not not believe that thoughts and prayers make a difference, they're just wrong."
He then prefaced a discussion of his health by saying, "I'm a very lucky guy."
Outside of work, Snow played the guitar, saxophone and flute, and was in a band called Beats Workin' with other Washington professionals.
Snow is survived by his wife, Jill Walker, and three children.

This is the kind of crap that pisses me off. I may have disagreed with Tony's view on things but I never, ever doubted the man's love for his family and life in general. When he spoke of his battle with cancer it gave hope for so many others and his family has all my sympathy. I can't even imagine what they are going through.
The failure is not on his part.

It should tell everyone something about those that can only post disparaging/mean/hateful/ugly posts in this forum, they more than likely live lives where theyre either depressed or angry at the world around them. Can you honestly believe that they live happy productive lives? Seriously? I dont believe they do.

I can’t say I am going to mourn the loss of the complete and total propaganda package that was Tony Snow. Not only was he the White House Press Secretary, but his previous gig was as an anchorman for the unapologetic spin center Fox News. He also made it a point to do the talk show circuit after leaving his job with the administration in order to further promote the Neo-Con agenda. See ya Tony, wouldn’t want to be ya, although Satan may have just gained a powerful ally in the Netherworld.

I am glad to see the the more reasononable lefties here agree Tony Snow was a good man. For the life of me, I cannot understand how any informed itelligent individual would think otherwise. I used to listen to him regulary when he did talk radio, before his White House gig. He was the best talk show host in my opinion, better than Rush. I say that because of his calm rational nature and intelligence. Rush gets a bit 'over the top' at times. I first heard him years ago when he filled in for Rush Limbaugh. He was always respectful to his callers and guests. He was a very intelligent consevative host that made even liberals think hard.
He was not a 'neocon'. He was a real conservative. There are few in this world like him with a good heart, integrity, and intellectual honesty. Many don't agree with him, but how many who really spent the time listening to him, could say anything bad about him? I say anyone who does talk bad about him is an absolute idiot.
I was really hoping he would return to talk radio after leaving the white house.

And the one thing that we saw in Iraq this week is further testimony to the quality of the men and the women who are doing that, and the dedication and determination to try to ensure that the people of Iraq really do live in a free, effective democracy of their own creation and design.
Any President who goes through a time of war feels very deeply the responsibility for sending men and women into harm's way, and feels very deeply the pain that the families feel. And this President is no different. You've seen it many times. You saw it, you saw it when he was in that ballroom, Terry, and you had this crowd of servicemen and women who were cheering loudly for the President, and he got choked up. So it's always a sad benchmark, and one of the things the President has said is that these people will not die in vain.

As a Fox News personality, he was just one among many to beat the war drums throughout the year 2002 and early 2003. During the invasion, he, along with most of the mainstream media, participated in misinforming the American public about the true realities of the Iraq war.
Not asking the tough questions and smearing those who did was just par for the course in those times. French fries became freedom fries. The Dixie Chicks were reamed for daring to speak out. Scott Ridder, a Republican and Marine, was labeled a traitor for speaking the truth about weapons of mass destruction. (Mainly, that they didn't exist).
As the rational minority warned about the pending disaster that George W. Bush and Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were about to unleash on millions, people like Mr. Snow worked hard to discredit them, the truth be damned. They were called unpatriotic, they were called unamerican, they were called traitors.
When Baghdad fell and it seemed like the Iraqi people were going to greet the liberators with flowers and hugs, Mr. Snow couldn't help but gloat. As George W. Bush proudly stood in front of a large banner proclaiming "Mission Accomplished", the so called journalists on Fox News, among them Tony Snow, made certain to remind the American public about all those liberal traitors and just how wrong they were about Iraq.
Then reality began to set in. As the weeks of the insurgency turned into months, then years, Tony Snow adjusted by making excuses, by manipulating language (also known as "spinning", or more accurately as "lying"), and by pleading ignorance. (As Keith Olbermann famously demonstrated) He did this on Fox News long before he did it as George W. Bush's press secretary. It was no secret that Tony Snow was a loyal Bush follower, and that made him an easy candidate for the job.
It wasn't just Bush's Iraq policy, however, that you would find Tony Snow defending as host of Fox News Sunday, or as guest host of The O'Reilly Factor, or on his radio show. To Tony Snow, George W. Bush could do no wrong. Rarely would you hear Tony Snow criticize any major policy of George W. Bush. From the environment, to health care, to stem cell research, fill in the blank. Tony Snow's loyalty to Mr. Bush was among the staunchest one could imagine.
That isn't to say he wasn't critical of the current president. It wouldn't be fair to say that Tony Snow never said a bad word about George W. Bush. But when he did, it was more often than not framed as an attack against liberal ideology. He was among those conservative commentators to say Mr. Bush was acting "like a Democrat" in regards to spending, for example. Attacking Bush's "big government", or his "political correctness". Like a typical neo conservative, Tony Snow's biggest complaint about George W. Bush had mostly to do with the money. Conservatives don't like paying taxes (especially when they're rich), and they don't like politicians who spend those taxes on anything other than more bombs, more guns, and more war.
Of course, Tony Snow was a neo conservative long before George W. Bush came to power. Before he guest hosted for Rush Limbaugh, he was George H.W. Bush's speech writer. He was also a newspaper columnist, where his conservative ideology would shine through with its typical appeal to jingoism, xenophobia, and any other base emotional trigger used to shape the opinions of the masses, always making sure to keep the truth as far away from the page as possible.
The result of the conservative revolution begun by Ronald Reagan over 25 years ago has been the destruction of the middle class, the erosion of civil liberties, the rigging of elections, and a media owned, operated, and run by the wealthy elite.
A media where people like Tony Snow play a crucial part in the brainwashing of America, doing its job on a day to day basis to make certain that the population has been dumbed down to a point where the president of the United States can preemptively start a war, where his vice president can profit from said war, where his senior adviser can ignore a subpoena and run, where he can commit treason by outing a CIA agent, and where torture and spying on American citizens is condoned.
Tony Snow leaves behind a wife and three children. He was 53.
