Saw an article on Drudge report this morning about how one their own has started a rival search engine. I checked it out, new concept in layout. And supposedly search more stuff.

I have an idea for a google rival too. It will be called Booble and it will show you where to find all the boobs on the internet. I will be rich!

"Google has become so synonymous with Internet search that it may no longer matter how good Cuil or any other challenger is, said Gartner Inc. (IT) analyst Allen Weiner."

I have to agree, also Google sounds better as a verb.

"Google has looked pretty much the same for 10 years now," she said, "and I can guarantee it will look the same a year from now."

When what you do works, you keep doing it. I also doubt they haven't made any significant changes to the way their search engine works in over ten years.

Also, all the cool search technology in the world is useless if you don't have the servers to support it:

"Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity."

I like the side bar on the right, but otherwise I wasn't that impressed.

I don't like it. It's hard to find anything your searching for, and that seems kinda counter intuitive for a search engine.

It seemed cluttered to me. And it seemed aggressive about trying to offer suggestions.

Thanks for the news though, I hadn't heard of it. It's always fun to mess around with a new search engine.
