Rangers.........BUY BUY BUY.....you have a shot at this thing.

With the biggest clubhouse killer in baseball playing for the Angels, the Rangers have a real shot to make a push to win the division. I guarantee you the Angels are going to start sinking.

As a Rangers fan this is the best news I've heard in a while

Kind of them to trade him back to the AL West. Jeez, did the Angels really need another bat? I don't pay that much attention to baseball, but I notice they're running away with the division.

Yep I was about to post this. The Braves are my favorite team...Kotchman is a good pickup. Not to get the Ranger fans started because I like your team...but your done. I love Kinsler because he went to college at Mizzou. You gotta love Hamilton. Young is good. The Halos have a better team though.

Unless the Rangers can somehow swing a trade for a 5 man rotation, then they should just sell.

    Braves made out well.

To get a guy like Kotchman for a 2 month rental is a pretty solid return. I wouldn't have thought they could have gotten that deal straight up.

The Angels must think that a guy like Brandon Wood's future is at 1b - which made Kotchman's long term production expendable.

Rangers don't have enough pitching. They have more than enough bats though. They shouldn't trade away a bunch of prospects this year because they're not even going to be able to make a run at the wild card. That's going to the AL East runner up.

are you kidding me? You had Tex on your team for about a year, you should know just as well as Rangers fans just what an asshole and team chemistry killer he is.

The Rangers just improved their positioning in the AL West by leaps and bounds, and they didn't even make a move.

Chris Davis and Salty > Teixiera

And because we got Salty we can trade one of our catchers for pitching. Peter Gammons says about 8 teams are asking us for a catcher right now, including New York and Boston.

Unbeknownst to most of North America, only two teams in the whole sport -- the Angels and Rays -- have a better record than the Rangers over the last three months (45-34). So GM Jon Daniels says: "I don't see us unloading the farm system to get into the rental market. I don't see us holding any sort of fire sale."
But that doesn't mean the Rangers don't have some interesting pieces on their shelves. Step right up and make an offer for Vicente Padilla, Kevin Millwood, Hank Blalock, Marlon Byrd, Frank Catalanotto or Gerald Laird. Daniels would listen to anything that "makes sense." And to make sense, any offer would have to upgrade this team's rotation, at least for the long haul.
So why are the Rangers willing to trade Padilla, their leading winner (11-5)? No, not because of dollars. And no, not because he's an astronaut, either. Because he's as talented as any pitcher on the market. So the Rangers are telling other clubs they're willing to deal him if they can get back a young starter they can plug into their rotation by next season, if not immediately.
They've had only back-burner interest so far, from a group that's believed to include the Tigers and Yankees. But in one of the least-inspiring rotation markets ever, that could easily change in the next week. Incidentally, two pitchers the Rangers don't intend to deal, despite extensive interest, are relievers Eddie Guardado and Jamey Wright.

Maybe Im missing something, but Tex never caused any distraction. He can hit the ball an awful long way and is as good on D as anybody.

While in Texas, he ed 24/7. He's one of the best defensive players in baseball but is an overrated hitter.

If you are paying attention, the Rangers are setting themselves up for an extended of contention. They shouldn't just automatically sell because they can't win this year. They should check the market out, see what long-term pieces they can get, and go from there. They should be buyers OR sellers, depending on the given situation, and what helps their long-term plans.

And boy, do they ever have long-term plans. The program is working. It's a great time to be a Rangers fan!!

Interested to see how Tex responds to the playoffs he's been ing about for years. If he goes A-Rod or Vlad Jr and stinks it up then I'm going to laugh my ass off at the guy.

As an Angels fan, I'm not sure how much I like this move.
Yes, the Angels have needed another bat in the lineup for a while to help protect Vlad (and now Hunter). Kotchman was a solid up and comer. Not the most marquee name out there by any stretch, but didn't do anything to attract attention to himself in either a good or bad way either. He just went out there and did his thing on a regular basis to help contribute to the team. What's got me concerned is how this move is going to affect the chemistry in the Angel clubhouse. If Tex starts showing his ass, that 11.5 game lead is going to shrivel away into nothing in a hurry......and that just can't be allowed to happen.
The Angels weren't the most dominant offensive team in the league (9th in the A.L., I believe), but the pitching staff is solid, and that's what's been keeping them in games all year long.
I don't see the Angels offering Texiera anything long term. Moreno and the brain trust probably just wanted to do something to potentially push them over the hump for this year, then figure out what to do once the season is over. All I know is that Texiera had better make a positive impact early and often, as I'm really not completely sold on this being the move that puts Anaheim over the top.

Getting Teixeira won't necessarily mean success. The Rangers have the best offense in the league this year after they traded him.

Well, they do get two compensatory picks if he walks in free agency after the season is over. So that is something to think about, too. If they draft properly, those two picks might be more valuable than Kotchman and Marek. So that may have figured into their reasoning for getting Tex.

And considering his agent is Scott Boras, is there any question about whether he will test the FA waters?
