If Malone did join the Spurs then Pop would play him in the playoffs and the Spurs would actually have a physical frontcourt presence alongside Duncan.

Otherwise I could easily see Pop making the same mistake as he did last year.

Pop has shown a willingness to play Rose and Massenburg more this season, but it's hard to bet against Pop's stubborness with the rotation come playoff time.

My reason is this -- all three of our main bigs this year are injured in one way or another. It doesn't take much.
