So say my ex wife moved and put a restraining order on me. I wanna kill this . She moved away and I have no idea where she is and she's not listed in the phone book or anything online. I remembered her eBay name, and bought something from her through it and used a money order and obtained her address. Then I put it in google maps and scope her out. Now she's dead!
It's stupid to me. This is just creepy. You don't think at all this zoomed in satellite is a tool for terrorism of some kind?
It's also an invasion of privacy. If I owned 50 acres and fenced it in so nobody could see, I just wasted my time because of google satellite. Whatever happened to privacy?
Are you kidding me? Google maps + Ebay = deadly. Planes = invasion of privacy.
Here's an idea. If you don't want people to see you from planes, build a roof over everything.

Your ebay point was ridiculous. To get someone's address you'd need to have someone buy something from you and miraculously remember their screen name? Yeah I'd guess there's a better chance of the google maps plane falling on your head. And saying that googlemaps makes it possible for someone to case an area is re ed also. People could drive down a street with a digital camera (or without for that matter) and see for themselves.
You said the eBay thing wrong. I'm buying from them, and getting their address for the money order. It's an example. If I don't know where she lives how else could I find out?
And sure all of us could go up in a plane and fly that low wherever we want.
And someone driving around taking pics would get their tags written down or confronted unless you were in the ghetto.

You don't need to fly low, you just need a good camera. Planes can't legally fly very low.
I can think of so many easier ways to get an address than your ebay scenario but ok.
Someone driving around taking pics might get their tags taken down but its not illegal to drive around and take pics so what are the police going to do? They're not going to investigate a report of someone doing something not illegal.

I didn't say anything about police. I have connections at the department of transportation and motor vehicles. It would be unwise to piss me off and you be in a registered and tagged vehicle. But that's just lucky me.

They freak me out too. I know it's basically the same thing as someone just driving by my house, etc but the idea that my house and car is out there on the Internet world for everyone in the world to zoom in and see...people from Croatia even, is a little "freaky." Not necessarily dangerous, but kinda freaky...
Anyways, side note of how the google map thing can actually be a good thing; My coworker was a victim of credit card/id theft by the people who came in and installed his carpeting (stole his credit card info from his house). Well, my coworker investigated this guy religiously all from the Internet and was able to somehow ID the guy and give police this guy's address...all because he google mapped this guy's house and verified that it was in fact where he lived because he saw the guy's white van parked outside the house.

actually i live in 5 acres out in the country, and there arent any pictures like that anywhere near there

Most of you are probably aware that Google has a feature called Street View on their maps where you can actually see what it looks like where you are trying to go, they call it Photomapping…What is the chance that as they drive through your neighborhood, that they come across your house at the same time as you are having an "incident" requiring Fire and EMS assistance.
