Sad day for Blazer fans. R.I.P. Big Duck.

Former Portland Trail Blazer Kevin Duckworth died Tuesday while visiting the Oregon Coast, reports The News Guard, Lincoln City's newspaper. He was 44.

A Lincoln County 9-1-1 dispatcher this morning confirmed Duckworth died Monday. A dispatcher said a police sergeant is expected to release more information about the death later this morning.

According to The News Guard, Duckworth visited Lincoln City to host a free basketball clinic for kids. He also was there to visit fans as part of the Trail Blazers "Make It Better" tour of the state.

Duckworth was a starter for the 1990 and 1992 Trail Blazers and a Western Conference All-Star in 1989 and 1991.

    I'm really shocked.

    This is really unexpected

His one hand jumper of pick-n'-rolls was his signature move.

that team of Porter, Drexler, Kersey, Williams and Duckworth was pretty sick....

Back in 1990 they swept the mavs in the 1st round of the playoffs which was the beginning of the mavs downfall in the 90's

One of the greatest mavs game i had ever been to involved Duckworth back in Dec of 1989, I was 8 yeard old....3OT

Interesting trivia: Duckworth was drafted by San Antonio, for those of you who didn't know.

Growing up in Portland, the name Kevin Duckworth was very well known. I'd met him on a couple occasions and he was always very nice and personable. He maintaned a home here after his career and came into the bowling alley in Milwaukie where my brother works on a few occasions. He was an all around nice guy and this city will miss him.

    Rest in peace, Duck.

Have a drink in the man's honor, blazer fan and nba fan alike.

Looks like the Blazers will be wearing a patch to honor Duckworth:

In all seriousness, I wonder if he had used too many anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately, I think a lot of players will die prematurely for this reason. Charles Barkley commented on this problem in his last book.

If you saw a recent picture, he was high-risk even if he had never touched an anti-inflammatory in his life.

He died from heart disease and had an enlarged heart. My understanding is anti-inflammatories are more likely to cause liver or kidney damage.

Yes, but some of them can damage the heart as well.

It looks like Vioxx is the primary culprit.
