The ExaminerRepublicans will suspend most of the activities planned for Monday's opening of their national convention because of the threat of Hurricane Gustav.

It doesn't makes sense to suspend the convention. It's a hurricane - there are people who can deal with it (if set up and allowed). The GOP is worried because they helped Katrina kill NOLA last time, and they were planning on the RNC being a huge party. A muted and respectful convention would be fine.
Reason enough to cancel, hurricane or not.
