A boondoogle war and...Army soldiers are being issued new fatigues with easy-to-use Velcro openings and a redesigned camouflage pattern that can help conceal them as they move rapidly from desert to forest to city in places like Baghdad.
"It might give you the extra second you need, save your life maybe," Sgt. Marcio Soares said Tuesday after trying on the new all-in-one camouflage uniform that is the first major redesign in Army fatigues since 1983.
Soares' unit, the Georgia National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade, is the first to be issued the new fatigues as part of a $3.4 billion Army-wide makeover being phased in over the next three years.
The uniform will replace the standard forest camouflage — green, brown and black — and the desert camouflage — tan, brown and grey — now used by U.S. troops in Iraq.

$3.4 Billion dollars of your money and this all the Army could come up with?
Fashion critics are raving over these chic Cammies. The well-dressed US soldier will be fashion-ready for the hip Iran season. Style-conscious soldiers can accessorize this new fashion look with new color co-ordinated body-bags and name-brand back-packs.

You guys crack me up.
Actually both of them look alot like the camys that the Germans use. But still I think the guys from Hungary had the best PT uniforms...theirs looked way better than the ones we had.
I believe the money includes R&D and the cost of the new uniforms.
That's not the point. The point is is that defense spending is already 45% of a 2.5 trillion dollar budget and that doesn't include the supplement for Iraq and Afghanistan that the President is sure to ask for soon, expected to be anywhere between $80-100 billion dollars. The W.H.'s budget included across the board cuts in everything, but defense spending, and just today the Pentagon had the gull to ask for another $15 billion on top of what has been appropriated by the W.H..
Given the supposedly low number of fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan, does that justify the spending of $3.5 billion dollars on new uniforms? And If troops safety was really driving this, wouldn't that money have been better spent on new flak jackets and armoured humvees?
Only Dan would be ing about spending money to save American lives.
Good call though Dan, a lower body count means less for your ing communist ass to about.
I think the army would know what the they need to protect their own troops. The cost is not that great considering that it is to put new uniforms on the ENTIRE army. The current uniforms have been around for a long time and have had questionable effectiveness. I think it's funny to question something as simple as spending money on camo and uni's. Uniforms don't take lives, they save them.
Just wait till he see ours....

Maybe the federal government should be spending most of its budget on national defense and let the peasants be free to take care of the rest of their lives...
Man, those are some ugly things, aren't they!![]()
Adding the pouch now so no one can tell you from the Postal Service?
Velcro closures? That'll be real handy while trying to be sneaky.
