    Duncan.

    Duncan's resume is better.
Duncan has 1 more Championship, 1 more Finals MVP.
Bird has 1 more regular season MVP.
    They were both ROY.

I didn't research the All NBA Teams, but my guess is that Duncan has had more First Teams than Bird did.

    And Duncan isn't done.

I adore Bird, he's the reason I'm an NBA fan. But I think Duncan will overpower him in most catagories by the time he hangs them up.

Wow. I knew going in that you would probably be the most interesting opinion to hear in the matter.
I thought you would ride the fence at least a little more than you did!

It's a question that's come up before, and one I've considered over the years. Like I said, I'm a big Bird fan. I saw him in his rookie season and got hooked on him and the NBA game. He's the only player I've followed anywhere even close to how I've followed Duncan. (It's not that close anymore. )

But now, a decade into Duncan, there's no question left in my mind. I think Duncan is the all-around better player. His resume is one part of it, he's more than proven it to me, and his sustained excellence on both ends of the court, and off of it, is the rest of it.

On a Spurs Forum, it will be Tim Duncan.

On any other Forum, it would be pretty close - but Bird is part of the 'holy trinity' of Magic, Bird and MJ - so he would almost always get the votes.

Bird will be remembered more than Duncan. He, together with Magic, brought the NBA to the masses.

Statistically, Timmy will beat him out. But there's a reason why Bird is called Larry Legend. One of the intriguing part of Bird's game is his sheer force of will that Tim often fails to demonstrate.

And the fact Timmy is from Sa doesnt help him.

Duncan is a more dominant player on both ends of the floor than Bird ever was. Larry is great but Timmy is better.

Bird was far from silent. He could trash talk with the best of them. My favorite stories are where he would tell his defender exactly what he was going to do, ending with "and you can't stop me." Then he'd do exactly what he told them he was going to, and they couldn't stop him.

    He wasn't that silent, true.

Another great Bird story: he was scoring easily in the 1st half of a regular season game; Bird loved challenges.
@ halftime, he told his teammates he would try scoring only with his left hand , and guess what he did

Although he plays basketball and golfs right-handed, Bird is actually ambidextrous: he eats and writes mostly left-handed.

Bird wins a popularity contest, which is what any real poll would be.

But just because hes more vocal of a person, doesnt make him a better leader. I think Tim's timely chosen words are much more powerful chemistry wise than Bird boasting he was going to score 50 and grab 20 boards and 10 assists since his teammates werent doing , then attaining half of it.
