    ------------------------------

To pass the time until the start of preseason, let's see how SpursTalk.com ranks the Top 50 Spurs. Those eligible for the list include all players, coaches and owners. I don't want to define "top" too narrowly, but I think the best way to do it would be to think of the list as a list of the 50 most influential people who have helped make the Spurs one of the most successful franchises in the history of sport.

For more information on what we are doing, check out this thread.

In this thread, we will vote for spot number 27. Please place your vote. If you will, also explain in this thread why you voted how you did.

    Thanks.

    P.S.

Poll options listed in alphabetical order. If you want to vote for someone not on the list, post in the thread and I'll add the person.

Voting will end 2AM CST Friday morning.

    Please vote only once.

Come on, it really is getting ridiculous, Willie Anderson over Robert McDermott?

I think some have different opinions over the inclusion of ownership in this list. To me, the owners are the most behind the doors, so being able to discuss and compare their exact contributions is not cut and dry. The fact that none of the owners moved the team out of town is great. However, beyond that, I'm not sure how to compare them, with Angelo being an exception for his work in getting the team here originally.

I agree with this. If it's a close call between a player and an owner I'm going to pick the player. The owners may be influential in terms of fiscal decision making, but it's still the players and the coaches who get it done on the floor.

I never ever sat up at night listening to a scratchy WOAI AM broadcast from whatever town my dad was stationed at around the country cheering for one of the owners the way I did the players. I never pretended to be Robert McDermott on playground hoops courts doing Whirly McDermott Dunks.

I agree all non players including coaches should have their own separate list.
Is McDermott or RC Buford really a Spur?

Some of y'all are just pissed because Sam Presti left. He helped bring some of our best talent here which SOME OF YOU are still hungover from the rings they helped bring.

I was torn between Antonio Daniels, Steve Kerr, Dale Ellis and Bones. I was shocked to see only Bones had any votes. I went with Antonio Daniels, he is one of my all time favorite Spurs. Very fun to watch and a great guy. Plus he is Timmy's bro.

Who did more for the Spurs historically? Put all of them together and did they do more for the organization than Presti?

Kerr brought us back so I'd rally for him, but not the others.

Paultz, Strickland, Rodman all had bigger contributions and put up better stats than Bones. Perhaps even Olberding too. He was a fan favorite, just not recently.

As for the non-player issue, I will say that Presti deserves attention for the next non player that gets thrown on here. His absence has shown the impact he had in the decision making process, at least to some degree.

I realize fan favorites get put high on the list, which is why Malik is as high as he is.

I love Brent, but he was a disappointment from the moment he signed with this team. He never lived up to the promise that came along with him. He had a few big shots, and a few big games. Not nearly enough to deserve a spot above anyone already on the list.

I'm confused about the Bones love affair as well. Those HEB commercials must carry some powerful subliminal messages.

I'd agree with all of those you name, in spite of my distaste for what Rodman did to this team. You could add Gene Banks and Dave Corzine as well.

Heck, as for recent players I'd argue that SJax and Kerr made bigger contributions than Barry. If recent role players are the direction folks want to vote for the next few spots I think SJax was the more influential Spur than Brent.

I wouldn't say that he was a disappointment, but I also wouldn't say he deserves to be this high on the list either. He had a crappy first year and last year, but Barry for sure has hit some HUGE shots and saved our ass many a time. Plus running the point when Beno couldn't cut it was important.
