Unfair, very dissapointing, but utlimately the right call. The fact that we actually have bipartisan agreement in the ultimate grid-lock Congress for once ought to tell you something.
The word "bailout" is being used awfully liberally as well. These aren't just straight cash giveaways.
As disconcerting as govt intervention into a mess created solely by the private sector is, a complete credit squeeze caused by a collapse of a big chunk of the financial system would have had worse aggregate ramifications on the economy.
What we need for once is a damn govt which isnt only reactive, but is proactive at diagnosing and dealing with problems before they completely blow up.
