why don't they put a " o. i'm a staunch democrat" name tag on her shirt so you know what you're getting. is this a news item or editorial? if it's an editorial then that's cool. i seem to recall the term "unbiased" being used in the definition of a journalist.

The bottom line is Sarah Palin is ing clueless on the issues that matter and that is why she is muzzled by the McCain camp. It's embarrassing that people accept this and would vote for someone that hasn't even been vetted.
Piper is a cute kid so I'm voting for Palin. I don't care if you're embarassed or if Obama is embarassed of americans when he goes to europe.
Why is it biased to question why Palin is being gagged by her own campaign? It is highly unusual and noteworthy.

FWIW: I think they are getting her up to speed on McCain's positions; so she doesn't contradict them; ala Biden.
She probably can handle herself in a Press Conference; she's been a governor. Her instincts, however, are different than those of McCain. She is a conservative. In many ways, he is not. Or maybe it's because they want to keep the aura of conservatism about her; once she starts answering with McCain's positions, the base could get turned right back off.
Just a thought; Regardless; they probably cannot keep this up until the election; if they do, it will hurt.

It's an indictment of Palin's handlers, not Palin. And there's nothing thinly-veiled about it. Let her speak and be held to the same standards as the others.
I kind of thought Palin would be sharp enough to pick up major points on policy issues in three weeks. Looks like she isn't. Wonder if she has any chance of it at all...

John McCain's campaign isn't the only one in the game of restricting press access.
As Joseph Biden addressed the rope line of supporters following his speech at the National Jewish Democratic Council conference Tuesday evening, an aide to the Senator was asking reporters to leave the area.
At least three journalists were told that they couldn't listen in on what Biden was saying to the throngs of people who had lined up to have their picture taken with the Senator. Instead, they were directed back to the press section - well removed from and out of view of the vice presidential candidate.
The clamped down access came just hours after Biden was caught on tape at a rope line in Ohio saying that he didn't support the construction of clean coal plants in America - a position somewhat at odds with Barack Obama.
That his handlers would subsequently restrict access seemed more than coincidental. But the press aide to the Senator, whose name I didn't catch, insisted that it was not she who was demanding the reporters be removed but rather the NJDC. An NJDC official, on background, refuted the idea flatly. "We weren't in charge of the rope line. That was Biden's people."
In the end, this type of restriction is minor compared to the total blackout offered by John McCain's campaign. While McCain held his first, brief press conference today -- for the first time in 40 days -- Sarah Palin has yet to take a question from a national reporter. Biden, in contrast, has done more than 80 interviews.
The press can be very sensationalist and often biased at times. But it's up to the people to make that judgment. If the Media is irresponsible, they can be held accountable by the people. Allowing our leadership to avoid media scrutiny, regardless of the relevance or validity of that scrutiny, is far worse for this country than an interview with a left- or right- leaning journalist.

Eh, I'm sure she's plenty sharp. Biden's a pretty sharp guy but makes tons of gaffes. The campaigns are looking to minimize that possibility; unfortunately for Palin, we have an extensive record on Biden, but little to nothing on her. So that's where the focus will lie.
Making gaffes is different from not knowing something.
Seriously. Making gaffes is one thing; understanding the nuances of a doctrine or what various interests in Afghanistan might want is another. You could pick up the overarching principles of the McCain/Republican platform in three weeks, easily, with coaching and devotion. That she's not even allowed to speak at this point is astonishing.
