I don't think the shocker is that he's gay, it's just the first that he's admitting to being gay. His stance all along has been that it doesn't matter what his sexual orientation is and doesn't think it should have anything to do with his career, singing ability (???) or what have you.

He said it was because his child was born, and he could not tell his child to be true to himself and not be open about this. His intentions seem good.
