    Holt Cat celebrates 75th anniversary
    By William Pack - Express-News

More than 1,000 customers and employees of Holt Cat got together Wednesday to celebrate the company's 75th year of selling Caterpillar Inc. products in San Antonio.

It was fitting because Peter Holt, the company's CEO, said the company's success comes from having hard-working employees, a great product and being there when people need help.

"We've lived through a lot of ups and downs of the Texas economy, and it's paid off," said Holt at his company's sprawling headquarters in southeast San Antonio. "There's no magic to it. It's hard work."

The company that began with three employees in a leased office at 1333 S. Flores St. in 1933 has grown to employ 2,000 people, including 600 in San Antonio, and to become the largest Caterpillar dealer in the country. Its gross sales exceeded $1 billion in 2007, officials said.

Holt, whose profile has risen in recent years as the chairman and CEO of the company that owns the San Antonio Spurs, said the company has expanded already this year and expects to grow more in San Antonio.

"We have a lot of work to do," he said.

To celebrate, Peter Holt plans to salary dump the Coyote by trading him and three future first round picks to a Houston based meat processing plant for some ground beef to be named later.

Maybe he should have given the employees four second-round Silver Stars playoff tickets and told them if they wanted to keep their job to show up. Couldn't hurt.
