Couldn't pay me enough to teach high school.
well, my significant other finally got into the teaching ranks out at
a high school in the southern parts of SA. woo hoo.
Lemme tell ya though.......however bad you have heard that teachers have it,
go ahead and multiply that by 20 and you have an idea of what she's
gone through.
Forget the kids that get ready to throw down right there in the
classroom on a daily basis or the ones that drop F bombs, and when she
tells them to cut it out, they drop 1000 more.....
she got to her class room and had to bring in her own desk, desk
chair, waste baskets and yes, even her own chalk board eraser.
oh, and the intercom that is supposed to page the adminstrative
offices in case of an emergency.......she doesn't have one...
it's so bad, it's almost hilarious.
oh, almost forgot the 7am - 10pm days she has put in so far.
Couldn't pay me enough to teach high school.
Sure, but I don't have the patience. And that's why I'm not a teacher, thankfully.
Glad to hear your wife finally got a teaching position.
yeah thanks, it was a last second deal.
I'll enjoy the extra $43000+ per year that she'l be bringing in over the near $0she has brought in the last 5 years, but this week has been .
sure, and Tony Parker can dunk, but it aint gonna happen any time soon.
I hope she lasts the school year!![]()
Tell you what you gotta do. You just gotta go in there and whip some ass!
Mrs. ASF has another year to go to her degree. She's aiming for elementary level, though, for the reasons you listed.
and this is why I wanted to become an accountant instead.
Takes a special person to teach highschool, particular in a not-so-good school. Bless her. And good luck!
She really wasn't expecting this and she's been preparing to be a teacher?
I think theres only so much you can prepare for honestly.
I have a friend who taught high school in LA Unified School District who had one kid who wouldn't shut the up, so he grabbed him by his ankles and pulled him out of his desk and into the hallway, and then told him he didn't give a where he went, but to never come back to his class again.![]()
If more teachers would do that, I think the kids would straighten out a bit.
+1
Which is one reason I could NEVER home school.
she should get her phd and make some $ at the university level
I'd rather work at a fast food place than work as a teacher for that kind of money. You make jack when you factor in the hours. Its re ed.
As thankless as teaching is, you still get the three month vacation. $43,000 for 9 months isn't too bad if she's smart enough to make the kids do the grading on everything but the exams.
Congrats, my wife just got her certification for Special Ed, she didn't want to do HS so she was holding out. Now, today, she just accepted a job doing CPS. My wife has a huge heart, don't know how long that will last.
Obviously she's not doing it for the money, so long as she's happy.
TX is probably one of the few states that's hiring teachers all the time...at least NISD is since a new school opens every other day.
Isn't CA cutting a bunch of programs and laying off teachers? My B-I-L's girlfriend just got her degree to teach and her 1st year she has to teach in East LA or some area like that (something to do with where she got her degree. I think it was Cal State DH and the job placement you have to do).
Michigan has like 5 of the top teaching programs in the country - put a surplus of well-qualified teachers together with the 9% unemployment rate here and crap economy, and you get a whole lot of unemployed teachers. There are a couple people in my information science program getting their masters in library science so they can have other career options.
Teaching is a tough job and you're not paid all that much ... but you can take a good deal of the summer off, the benefits are better than you're going to see in other jobs paying similar amounts, there is still a retirement package (again unlike similar-paying jobs), and you're not likely to have your job outsourced to Bangalore.
But I can't see doing HS in an urban district no matter what. All the best and thank her for her service.
