I believe to get a Spurs one a set number of people need to reserve and put a down payment for one and if they get enough they will make them. Something like that.

Nope. Spurs have to submit a design and pay something like $8K to get a plate made (once approved). Cheap bas s in the FO won't do it. According to the specialty plates FAQ the $8K is refunded after 1900 plates are sold/renewed. I have a hard time believing that rabid SA fans wouldn't buy that many.

Then again, the Mavs only sold 788 thru the end of 2007 ...

Interestingly, the most popular "special" plate is the "State of the Arts" plate, with over 200,000 at the end of 2007.
