true... I mean false.
Hey guys it's meg...kedas beautiful girlfriend and I have a question for anyone with an answer. I am going into nursing and I started thinking that I want to specialize in obstetrics but I am not sure if this is what I really want to do. I want to do labor and delivery and with being a nurse I see this as the best way to do it. So my question, if anyone that has any know how of the field or nursing in general, please lend me your knowledge. Thanks!!!
Have you applied to nursing school yet? If you have some schools in mind consider going to admissions people and asking if you can go to a class or two. I'll bet you $100 they'll love to have you sit in the back of a class because that's who will be teaching you at the end of the day. If you don't like the way they teach, whether the field is right or wrong for you, you're not going to like the school
At the end of class talk to a professor (do they call them professors or doctors in nursing school?) and/or students about some of your questions. I have friends in nursing school and I bet you they spoke with some people before making any decisions.
I don't have ANY experience in nursing, but when with undergrad asking as many questions as possible to those already there was the way I found where the best place and program was.
Not a nurse, but as someone who has been in labor and delivery a few times, as long as everything is going smoothly, you'll be doing all the work. With both of my deliveries, the doctor came in just when it was time for me to push.
Labor ain't pretty and you'll be doing all the 'dirty' work. Just a heads up!
the nurse actually delivered my son and the doctor came in 20 minutes later to collect her paycheck...
but mom's is a nurse...pop's is a nurse...so it's one of the best professions imo especially if your in satown and plan on staying...be ready to work though...
too many students get a degree...and then realize being a nurse is hard god damn work.
can you speak spanish? learn it. that will help you.
I went through the maternity class last semester, observed about 3 C-sections and half a dozen live births. It was great. The one caveat is that this field is the most prone to lawsuits. It is not easy, but it is a good area to get into.
I don't know if you are in nursing school or have just decided to start. But if maternal health nursing is your area of interest, keep it in mind, there's just no reason to decide before you start. Your nursing program will expose you to all the specialties and you'll be able to have a sample of each one. Then you can decide. I thought general surgery was where I would start, but ended up going straight into trauma/critical care. That's the cool thing about nursing, there are so many areas you can work, specialties within specialties, and everyone can find their niche.
Yeah I am just starting out. I partied to much after high school and didn't really go. But I am pretty sure thats what I want to do. I am going to try and get into as many rotations as possible to see which one I would want to do but I do know that I want to specialize as well. Ive thought about doing ER or NICU but Im not sure so we will see once I really get into my classes. I wouldn't mind working for an OB/GYN either but who knows.... I'm 23 so I ahve a while before I need to decide anything!
Child birth trolls are the best.
Nursing is a great field to work in, you won't regret it, no doubt!
I'm really exicted about it...I work at a doctors office now but I may want to look for something in that field where I can see it first hand. whether is scheduling or whatever. Plus I want to find something closer to the new place when we move...which is coming up and I am getting WAY exicted for. But I may stick it out here for a a bit to see what happens
Well if you are going to school to be head nurse I have classes opening up.
I can supply the patients
This is going to be great. Orion and I will exclusively do all the training. Just to make sure our "nurses" are prepared. I will handle the day to day operations and Orion can be the talent scou..... I mean recruiter.
