So, they "dated" from 87-98? From 87-93 there was a GOP prez to veto, and from 94-98, Frank wasn't in control of the committee, which was run by Republicans. This wasn't even a story 10 years ago when they broke up.

The real problem with the meltdown was the bundling, selling and mis-rating of ALL of the mortgage backed securities as low risk. If they had correctly identified the high risk loan packages, they wouldn't be crawling out of the woodwork now and collapsing banks right an left. The collateral adjustments that we are seeing would have been done correctly up front, or the loan originators would have been stuck with them.

Are you guys really still trying to blame this on the GP? Even Bill Clinton, he of the Democratic persuasion, has said repeatedly that he tried to push through reform of Freddie and Fannie while President but was blocked by the Democrats in Congress from doing so.

I guess he's really just a necon in disguise, right?

Insofar as you try to blame it only on the Dems, sure. That Frank is a tool doesn't make the GOP any less guilty. When politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle were getting their money from Freddie and Fannie, nobody was ing. But now that the hit the fan, everybody is pointing fingers.

The two parties are equally guilty. Now, please, let's move on.

You know... I always thought that dogs, uh, laid eggs. And today, I learned something.
