Did you know that there are still 135 people missing?

Did you know that Galveston is still in ruins weeks later?

Did you know that there are hundreds of people living in tent cities because they cannot find housing and FEMA has failed to provide any practical solutions for living quarters?

If you live in Texas and you haven't heard these things, blame the M$M...

Ike still brings tears to the eyes of Texas

Hurricane Ike - the third most destructive hurricane to ever hit the United States - made landfall in Texas a little more than a month ago, but the nation appears to have lost track of the storm's survivors.

In a tour of the devastated Galveston Bay area on Tuesday, former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton urged Americans not to forget the storm-wrecked coastal communities. As they did following Katrina, which was the most destructive hurricane in American history, the two former presidents have joined forces to raise awareness of and funds for the victims of Ike.

The Sun Herald, in partnership with Han Bank and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, has established the Galveston Bay Hurricane Relief Fund. Contributions to the fund can be made at any branch of Han Bank, and you can keep track of the fund Monday through Friday on page A2 of the Sun Herald.

But more, much more needs to be done.

Despite the spectacle of the economy and the looming election, the nation must not lose sight of the suffering in Texas.

We salute CBS News for a report by Hari Sreenivasan on Wednesday that included these observations: "Today, there are at least 54 debris fields, spread out across 80 square miles. Authorities are still using cadaver dogs to search for the 137 people still missing... .

"In addition to the missing, thousands more are still suffering. Almost 8,000 households are still in temporary FEMA housing, and more than 400 people are still living in a tent city in Galveston.

While the beaches may be open, there is hardly anyone on them - and that's taking a financial toll as well."

We know this story all too well. Which is why we must not close our eyes to the suffering in Texas.

I like how your article you think supports your idea of a mainstream media blackout includes a recent Ike story from the mainstream media.

Did you know it still sucks to live in Biloxi? Well, it sure does!

I can only hope we get a decent nightclub sometime in the next year.

Dan, a couple of weeks ago you said there were tens of thousands dead. Now it's 135. Make up your tin foil covered mind.
