Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers lead the Eastern Conference, while Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets top the Western Conference after the first returns of 2009 NBA All-Star Balloting presented by T-Mobile. Howard, the reigning Sprite Slam Dunk champion, is the overall leader with 775,933 votes.

Because it's a game for the fans to see their favorite players play. It's not the Best Stats in the NBA team game. It's just a popularity contest for the starters, then the coaches give the nod to whoever else is deserving as reserves.

Yeah I know, but seriously I am not going to vote a player based on where they are from and they have similar backgrounds as me! I vote who deserves to be in the game, not who my fave is or what race he is. My favorite happens to be Tim Duncan so there is no problem there , I can vote for my favorite player and not feel guilty at all. BTW I agree with what you said and it is a popularity contest, but if a bum like say Yi gets in the leagues should have a veto ready for instances where a average guy gets in there because of votes from idiotic fans .
