I saw your farewell on the news tonight, and it moved me to write this, thank you, and beg you not to leave. Not that it makes a differnece in your playing career, but we would like to keep you right here. Yes your place of employment has now changed, and we are all at a loss of words for it, but it does not mean that you have to leave.
You came to us as just another odd jock out of college that we all expeceted to use the same old lines during interviews, yet you were far more intelligent.
You came to us in 1996, after going to college at Drexel, a man that most of us will admit had serious doubts about your skills, yet have learned all about them.
You came to us an undersized player for the positions you were asked to play, yet taught us that you could play beyond your size.
You came to us when we did not have an NBA le, yet you have left us with two.
You came to us with what we though would be alot of nothing, yet leave us with everything we could have wished for far surpassed.
What I am writing about is not so simple but I am doing the best that I can to do it justice, as you have done for yourself.
You came into this community, asking for nothing, yet leave far more behind. Your perseverence, honor, and self respect have left a lasting impression. The manner in which you have acted on and off of the court is to be commended. You are the little guy that goes amoungst the big kids, and is not afraid to do it. You have taken the praise with humility, and the critisism with class. We cheer for you not because of who you play for, but who you have become.
You have become San Antonio.
I can rarely walk into a gathering of people and not here your name mentioned, and yes the conversation concerning you can get heated, yet they always seem to end with respect for you as a man, no matter what side they were on.
You chose to bring a piece of your home here in opening Philly's Phamous, and because of the man you are we chose to make it ours.
You have touched many more of us that you will ever know, and for that we say thank you.
And now I ask you to not leave Malik, becuse we need you. You are the blue collar heart of San Antonio. The man that goes to work everyday with no glory, and continues to do it. You are the dreamer that many of us are, and have achieved it. Your smile infects us, and your intelligence intrigues us. You have become a part of the pulse of this city more than you will ever know, so now I am begging you, DON'T LEAVE.
Remember Malik that although your playing address may be changing, in our hearts, you will always be here. So I ask that you from time to time, as your career goes on, remember to say hi when you can. And that you, when your career finnally comes to the end of a true gentlemans career, not to forget your second home. The one that has adopted you, the one that will run to the door in a flurry when it sees that it is you outside ringing the bell. May God be with you and your family during your travels, as we will ask him to watch over you. We will miss you more than you, and ourselves will know. Just consider this a kind reminder. Find your way home sir, we will be waiting.

I've just been watching the 1999 spurs championship video to reminisce upon Malik Rose's stay with the spurs. He appears in the video a lot, but over half of the clips are of him standing on the sidelines waving a towel or pointing his fingers or jumping on a player who just did something awesome. Out of every San Antonio player in the history of the franchise, Malik was the biggest Spurs fan of any of them. Man I miss him.

I truly believe that the trade is what is best for the Spurs
But I also believe that the Spurs are very influent on the city as a whole
Despite what a person might think of Rose as a player, he does deserve our respect, and he has become part of this city
And in a city that needs poeple for our youth to look to, cause God knows you can't ask for that in our political faces, it would be good to have him living here when his career is over

I guess part of why I'm not that upset about "Malik the person" leaving is we've got a whole team of guys with the same kind of heart and "goodness".
