Honestly I can't speak it at all. It's my biggest regret that I can't speak the language that our ancestors spoke. The only consolation is that I have a very strong spanish accent, sometimes my speakings sound more like spanish rather than english.
It's a fortune to be born in states but it's also a tragedy to be born to a place which is distant from one's homeland. Our ancestors left Spain where they had been living for generations, for a newly discovered continent which was quite different from today's america. Only the really warriors have such courage.
Best wishes for the blessing Spain.

I know a bit of Spanish, because my wife is Mexican. She's going to make me learn it all one day.

I really hope the FIBA world cup will be held in Argentina where most of the people speak spanish, or espanol. In fact, I'm a spanish who can speak little spanish, which is my biggest regret in my life. I have thought about learning it a little bit but the time doesn't permit me to do so. Even so, I still love spanish and my english speaking is also pretty spanish. I mean I have a very strong spanish, even stronger than Marc Vandermeer. I enjoy it when I speak English with a strong spanish accent, although it may confuse others sometimes. My tongue was created for Spanish instead of English because I'm a spanish anyway, no matter what nationality I'm holding now.
My happiest moment was when the spain soccer team beat the germany team to win the Euro cup this summer. I love Spain a lot, even more than US.
Keep our heros in our minds for ever, my brothers. Texans are more spanish than american even though they speak english more frequently.
    Casillas/Ramos/Puyol/Marchena/cappdevila/David Silva/Inesta/Marcos Senna/Xavi/Torres/Villa.

    Seriously... WTF?

Dude is brave to let it all hang out in in here.

Rogue, this isn't LiveJournal. To show yourself to other people the way you do is very brave. People in this forum are not nice. Not everyone.

If you think so, you're live bait. Step away from the shark tank, and get a Facebook page. These people will eat you alive.

It's a good idea to post links for discussion. Your habit is to post journal entries. This can be dangerous. You are letting other people talk about you.

With all respect, Sir, this isn't the place for "Dear Diary", or to learn and practice proper English. It's not safe here.

But if you decide to stick around, Rogue, my hat's off to you. You may not know it yet, but you got some stones posting the way you do here.

Have fun, but be careful. Cuidado. You could get hurt.

I know how to ask for a beer.

I know how to ask for the location of a public restroom.

I know how to ask where are my keys.

    That's about it.

I took four years of high school Spanish, and took an AP test that placed me out of the requirements in college. So in 2001 I was just a step or two short of fluency. Since then I've barely used my skills, so I've regressed quite a bit. It's enough to give directions to any Spanish speakers who wonder into my office, or ask the real important questions like Darrin's. Mostly I use it to annoy my wife, who doesn't speak any Spanish.

Twelve years of primary school Spanish = nada.

Two years of intensive Spanish at UT = solid, intermediate mastery.

I can read and speak, no problem.

Lo dificil es entender lo que la gente me dice. Hay dialectos, lenguajes, espresiones fijadas muy distintas. Y eso varia mucho de lugar a lugar. No se ofrece tex-mex a la escuela.

This complaint is directed primarily at people grew up in San Antonio.

Growing up here, I was always pissed that all the Spanish classes were filled up (BY PEOPLE THAT ALREADY KNEW SPANISH ), so I ended up taking two years of Latin in high school (LATIN! ) and two semesters of Russian in college (RUSSIAN! )

If I were you, I'd learn the English language before I tried to tackle another one. Maybe you could take a history course while you are at it.

What a... strange spectacle. Apparently we have a Chinese person who is trying to trick people into thinking he is a Tejano who wishes he spoke Spanish. In other cir stances, his tortured English and his failure to comprehend that Hispanics in Texas did not emigrate directly from Spain would be kind of funny, but here... it's just weird.

why do you have a spanish accent if you don't speak spanish? I have a French accent but can't speak French.

Writing from American-born isleños typically doesn't read like stereo instructions.
