Gupta: No On Marijuana
Posted by Kathryn Muratore at January 8, 2009 10:51 AM
Potential Surgeon General, Sanjay Gupta, speaks out against marijuana legalization. His arguments are not compelling; marijuana legalization proponents generally do not say that smoking pot is good for otherwise healthy individuals. Rather, they point to the loss of liberty and increase in crime that go along with prohibitions. See Mark Thornton's Economics of Prohibition and his podcast with Lew.

Politically efficent, is he not?
One must ask themself, why is marijuana illegal?
There are a myriad of reasons, but most notably and importantly, it wins elections. The War on Drugs has won and lost most chairs in government than the Great Depression.
Think about that. Think about the $$$ invloved.
Marijuana will stay illegal in the Federal Governments eyes forever. It has to.
Joking, I'm still okay with Gupta. And I'm resigned to legalization being a futile battle, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be perturbed by arguments opposing it's legality.
He is an idiot!
I would have asked this clown what he thinks of alcohol and why is alcohol legal then?
abuse of alcohol is 10x(or more) worse abuse of maryjane
gotta love the buddah! buddah lovah! gotta learn to smoke the buddah...
mmm nug. mmm kind. mmm chron. gotta love it.
ps: the government and their backwards thinking. those old ass pos politicians that do nothing but destroy our nation with their bs ideologies and policing of this world. them! and the ironic thing is i bet every one of them has smoked herb and loved it when it was the thing to do back when they were 20 something yrs old but now they got the dough and power and only burn in their house behind closed doors and preach the opposite from their high ranking chairs.
Our so-called freedom is reason enough for weed legalization to be a no-brainer, but the fact that it helps keep chemo patients from constant vomitting after a treatment is pretty compelling too.
From what I've read about Gupta, I am rather displeased. He seems like a shill for the corporate/government line.
Did anyone see when Colbert showed clips of Gupta's bit on CNN where he ate various animal penises in Thailand??? ROFL
