Not everyone appreciates excellence

Why are the Spurs so unappreciated by the media? Are they hated that much?

I don't think hate is in the equation at all. But here are the reasons that come to mind:

The Spurs aren't interested in being glamorous or controversial. So the storylines coming out of San Antonio lack the kind of pizzazz that media hounds need to juice up their reporting. Which is why so many fans and sports reporters consider the Spurs to be boring.

Except for some occasional prestidigitations by Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, the Spurs play basic basketball. After all, Tim Duncan is The Big Fundamental — and unless they've played the game themselves on a fairly compe ive level, most media onlookers don't fully appreciate TD's special talents. Likewise, recognizing the Spurs' precision rotations on defense is beyond the ken of many media Muppets.

San Antonio is not one the league's major markets, and its TV ratings are usually subpar, so why should NBA insiders in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago get overly excited by business as usual so deep in the heart of Texas?

No, no. It's not about hate. It's about a failure to understand the fine points of the Spurs' game plan.

ESPN had a poll for who you'd most like to have taking the last shot. Kobe got 55 percent, Lebron 27 percent, Paul Pierce 8 percent, Wade 6 and Manu 4. People are stupid.
