Even also Olympiacos will be building a new arena to NBA features and with 20,000 capacity. The new arena of Aris is said to be better quality and features than any arena in all of NBA. It is said to be best indoor arena of any kind in all of Europe.

And Panionios arena and Panathinaikos arena is already to average NBA level for arenas. Once new Olympiacos arena is built Maroussi will have current arena of Olympiacos. This way Maroussi will not have share arena with Panathinaikos like they do now.

PAOK arena after expansion and remodel and new Panellinios arena are even in top tier of best basketball arenas in Europe.

So... the reason they can't afford to pay their players is because they're pouring all their money into high school gymnasiums?

They don't play in high school gyms, but in 90% of their games there are so few people on the stands that they could.

Size doesn't really matter that much.

For those like myself that enjoy rough environments, the best arena in the world to see a basketball game is the Pionir and the capacity isn't larger than 7.500 or so.

Pionir (Partizan), OAKA (Panathinaikos), Alexandrio (Aris), and PAOK arena (PAOK) is best home courts ever.

But PAOK is best one of all. It is even scarier than Pionir.

So it only took Greeks eighty years to figure out they could put seats in the space around the court?

    Sounds about right.

So it only took Greeks eighty years to figure out they could put seats in the space around the court?

    Sounds about right.
No Olympiacos arena was built in 1985. Olympiacos did not play there I think until 1991. And arena had seats around court. In 2004 arena was remodel and updated and made modern for Olympics. This was where volleyball tournament was held.

So seats around court are gone after this.

Capacity was original time 14,095 and then was made 12,171 after Olympics. Then Olympiacos built modern locker facilities for players (NBA level) and capacity was make down to 11,395.

But since then there is two new tiers of seats. It depend on what club wants because arena is also used as fair grounds of Athens and for track and field and other things. This is why court space is so huge.

So Olympiacos has two tiers of seats for they can add. For playoff games seats is add to make it 14,776 and for games of Greek championship against Panathinaikos seats is add to make it 16,000. But team cannot keep them there after games is over they must move them. Because arena is also for fair grounds and track. This is why in pictures when arena is empty is no seats near court and in ones where it is championships with PAO there is seats all over.

This is why Olympiacos wants build new arena that can be used just for them only. This way they could keep capacity always at 16,000 or more.

Reason why many other arenas not have seats around court and just in recent time start to do this or in coming next couple years is because of fans attacking players and coaches.

So it only took sixty years for Greeks to figure out they could put seats in the space around the court.

And the Greeks are too violent and boorish to actually let them sit there.

    Sounds about right.

Have you not notice the Plexiglas protectors around the courts? This is now what teams will be using. And will be much security and police around there now. So that with arenas getting expansions of seats around courts for new ULEB rules for capacities with fans this close to players and coaches should be OK.

You can see even the Plexiglas comes up very high and is curved so that the drinks and coins and rockets and fireworks and other things fans thrown will not hit the benches.
