Yup Manu was just killing the Lakers enroute to his team's 1-4 record against them this decade.

When his playing career is over, Manu Ginobili will be remembered for two things : being a Team USA killer in his international career and being a Los Angeles Lakers killer in his NBA career.
Basketball fans have been very fortunate to have been treated to a Lakers-Spurs rivalry for a decade. The San Antonio Spurs, led by the twin towers of Tim Duncan and David Robinson, swept the Lakers in the second round in the 1999 playoffs on their way to their first le. But for the next three years, with the Shaq-Kobe tandem peaking under the tutelage of Phil Jackson, the Lakers had the Spurs' number, and victimized them on their way to a three peat.
Enter Manu Ginobili in 2002. Manu was an afterthought in the 1999 NBA Draft, being picked second to last, but by the time he made his NBA debut, basketball observers were drooling at what he had become - and what he could become.
Needless to say, in the next five years, Manu became one of the greatest winners in the history of the game, helping the Spurs win three championships and Argentina win Olympic gold in Athens, schooling the Dream Team to boot.
Ironically, Manu's NBA debut came against the Lakers. He played 20 minutes and his stats were modest, yet telling. Although he scored just seven points on 3-9 shooting, he was looking like a seasoned veteran in helping the Spurs win. What he didn't score in points, he made up on defense (four steals, two defensive rebounds, a block) and the floor (three assists).
The Lakers and Spurs met again in the second round of the playoffs that season, and Manu's efforts helped the Spurs not only reclaim their throne, but get sweet revenge on the team that had tormented them. Manu had stepped up his game, averaging 11.7 points and 2.17 steals in the six-game series. He also made some memorable highlight-worthy plays in the series, including a baseline reverse dunk over Mark Madsen.
After 2003, the Lakers and Spurs faced off again in the playoffs twice (2004 and 2008), with the Lakers winning both times. The sop re Manu played solidly against the Lakers team with four future Hall of Famers in 2004, but Derek Fisher's miraculous turnaround jumpshot with 0.4 seconds left in Game 5 was a killer.
In 2008, Manu was seriously hurt and frankly, stunk it up, but his 30-point outburst in Game 3 under the worst of cir stances didn't hurt his reputation as a Lakers killer. After all, when you play well, make some spectacular plays and victimize a team on your way to a le, and follow up with a few more les, people tend to remember that first impression.
I don't want to sound as if I'm putting my life on the line for a regular season matchup between the Spurs and Lakers but what just happened Wednesday night in San Antonio was too good to ignore. The game went right down to the wire, with heart-wrenching lead swings and a three-point play by Roger Mason, Jr. deciding the game by one (112-111 Spurs). And not surprisingly, Manu Ginobili killed the Lakers, scoring 27 points and making timely baskets that ultimately made the difference in the game.
Hey, even though I'm a San Antonio Spurs fan, I understand they can be seriously boring. However, try telling me that the Lakers-Spurs rivalry has been boring.
There have been great games, great players and great personalities (mostly on the Lakers side) between the Purple and Gold and Black and Silver. There's an understated level of bad blood between the two clubs, one that is not talked about a lot - but undoubtedly simmering underneath the surface. And it wouldn't have been the same if Manu Ginobili's prime didn't coincide with the ongoing war.

Spurs>Lakers in the past 10 years.
The Spurs have won 4 Championships, the Lakers 3. The Spurs have made it past the 1st round every year. The Lakers, have not. In 05' the Lakers did not even make it to the playoffs at all. 2006 and 2007 the Lakers lost in the 1st round. The Spurs have also won every Finals appearance they have been in. The Lakers, in 04' and 08' not only lost the series but were also humiliated in the final game of the Finals of those years by both the Pistons and the Celtics.
So as of right now in RECENT history, the Spurs>Lakers.
What's funny is that I recall..THE SPURS WON THAT GAME...And KOBE GOT SUSPENDED THE NEXT GAME against the Knicks.![]()
That's funny cuz this is how Kobe will be remembered.

IS that because he attacked the Pussy that wasn't his?

remember that because i will never forget
I hope you're being sarcastic. I'm not sure how well I would play on an ankle that required surgery...
mookie is guilty of PBT sometimes.
PBT=Post Before Thinking
hey that was a real great basketball decision playing on an injured ankle and hurting the team
he said during that series he wouldnt use it as an excuse, played, then cried that he was injured
ultimate move
Would you rather he just sat out and not even tried? That sounds like a move.
And wow you sure know your history. Can you find me a quote of his where he blamed anything on his ankle?
Mook=Closet Laker Fan
