No copying and pasting here, just my own ideas.

There’s no doubt that Obama’s style has worn on my last nerve. From his Hollywood-esque inauguration parties, to the sickening adulation of the guy in the MSM, to his proclamation that catastrophic financial consequences are eminent without his version of the plan. I’ve had it with the nonsense. Nevertheless, there are some hidden gems in his plan, but first, and not surprisingly to you I'm sure, I'm gonna talk about the warts.

I’m going to side with the Republicans need to continue fighting to eliminate what they perceive as pork. $650 million in coupons for digital tv conversions is just an example of some of the stupidity. A stimulus is necessary, but we simply can’t afford pork.

Also, I’m not into increasing welfare benefits through Medicaid. In the future, our en lement programs have the potential to cause the financial tsunami that will finally bankrupt this country. Once you add millions to the welfare roles, it’s hard to take them off.

I can go on and on about the wasteful spending in the bill, but now here's the good side.

I love Obama’s focus on going “Green”. Maybe not for the same reasons liberals love it, but I love it nonetheless. What I see when people talk about going “Green” is green dollar signs. I guess like the IPCC, but I digress.

To me, “Green means Clean”. Cleanliness sells! Going green allows the US to compete global based on cleanliness and “perceived” quality/value. Our quality/value proposition has been losing steam over the past several years. Going "Green" is an opporutnity for us to dictate the market place. Compete on price is a deadend. China and India have price compe ion locked-up. Instead we focus on producing products other countries can't produce and we create a need, wheather the need is real or perceived.

I do not care if global warming is another Y2k, because a ton of money was made on Y2k. My only worry is that liberals will focus too much on regulation and not enough on investment and marketing. Our country has the chance to make trillions of dollars off of this if we do it right. I’m on board libs!

Christopher Lasch once theorized unfamously that environmentalism would be the conservatism of the 21st century.

Maybe 2cents is a weather vane.

great idea. I wonder why nobody has thought of producing products that others can't before you did

I heard 200 million dollars were for cutting grass. Mean more Mexicans will be crossing the borders.

Remittances are down. US unemployment is running 500,000/week so far this year.

    Is emigration from Mexico up?

    Or are you just psychic?

    Why?

To me this is a no brainer. The government is mandating a switch to a digital signal for broadcast TV. Why should people be required to accommodate this switch out of their own pockets? $40 isn't chump change to some people, and I don't think access to the airwaves (especially for emergency alerts, etc.) should be restricted to those who can afford to convert on their own.

Do you have a problem with the coupons themselves or simply the price tag?

650 million is no longer a very large number. To keep people glued to the tube?

Is a rather plain political desideratum.

Cheap too, for the peace it buys.

When people start realizing that the govt money being given out IS being taken out of their own pockets, or their neighbors pocket...mebbe things will change.

Democrats and liberals have affected the class warfare gambit very well. "Make my rich neighbor pay for it, don't take it out of my pocket."

Until that mentality changes...nothing else will.

People inherently look out for their own interests. Capitalism is built on that whole principle, self interest. When you know you can make as much as your abilities can take you...you work harder.

Socialism is built on the same principle...self interest, but in reverse. It is not built on working as hard as you can to better yourself and keep what you make. It is built on taking from someone else...and giving it to me. "Make govt pay for it." i.e...someone else, is the battle cry.

The difference between self interest, and selfishness.

If you don't like what govt is forcing you to do...you fight govt, not your neighbor just because he may have more money than you.

And...to get back to poster's original point...

There is some merit to this going green thing. Again, not for the reasons the left uses as was pointed out. R&D spending could be a valid role for govt in this (tho, I'm even a little wary about that.)

Pollution and environmental damage is always a concern. It's not a left only issue. The leftists have turned it into a fanatical religious issue, occupied by zealots and martyrs...leaving common sense behind. But, in Countries where there is serious environmental damage and destruction going on in massive scales...like China, many parts of South America, Africa, Asia...the need for these products could be intense. Whether they can afford these products is another issue...so there's risk involved.

The "man made" Global warming issue has gotten beyond rational thinking. So the "going green" thing has that baggage to deal with, turning off many people right from the start. But there are valid business opportunities available here. Always has been, and people/business have been taking advantage of it for decades...and getting stronger.

Let the market determine how and best to adapt and take advantage of needs that come up...and things will work out better than if govt decides to get fully involved using political rational and thinking to direct the effort.
