Robert Horry likes the Celtics and loves the Maloofs
    Scott Howard-Cooper
    Sacramento Bee

Robert Horry wants to play again this season. That much is obvious after talking with him in advance of the Kings arriving in his adopted hometown of Houston and in the aftermath of the Sam Amick report that the Spurs weighed a bid for Brad Miller or John Salmons and could use Horry in a sign-and-trade for salary-cap purposes.

The important league-wide development is that Horry rates the Spurs and Celtics as his most-likely landing spots. Both understandable. San Antonio is a contender and familiar from the past five seasons there and close to Houston, an important consideration to stay near his family. Boston is the defending champion and has kept him on the radar all along as a potential stretch-drive signing.

Boston, obviously, is not close to Houston. And even Horry jokes about a potential reunion with Celtics GM Danny Ainge and how it will take a nano-second before someone posts the clip of Horry throwing a towel in the face of coach Danny Ainge when they were with the Suns. But the Celtics have the strong lure of a shot at another ring and the stronger lure of point guard Sam Cassell, a close friend from their Rockets days.

"The only person that can really talk me into Boston is Sam," Horry said.

The slightly important, mostly hilarious development for the Kings is that not only would Horry welcome any such deal, he would love it and do his best to make it real.

He can see it now: First Kings player to be booed in Sacramento. The only greater inner-turmoil for fans would have been if Phil Jackson had accepted the proposal to replace Rick Adelman as coach. Enemy at the gates!

"I heard about it," Horry said of the report that he could be included in a trade. "Trust me. If it happens, I'd be like, 'Thank you.'"

Free money. He would get millions to sort of come out of retirement for cap purposes, far more than the Spurs or Celtics or any other contender could offer, and might not even play.

"But I don't think it'll happen," he said.

No one has talked to Horry about such a move and the Spurs haven't spent time considering him as a trade chip in any deal.

    If it did happen?

"It would be real funny," he said. "Here's this guy who hit a shot to help keep them from a championship, and now we're just going to give him some money.

"But I would love to come there and be part of the organization. The Maloofs are great people. They're trying to get a new arena, and Sacramento's a great city."

Being part of the organization as a player, an unofficial assistant coach, whatever way the Kings feel like he could help. Again, he doesn't think it will happen. Quite the rich Horry-Lakers-Kings plot twist to consider, though.

Coming out of semi-retirement to chase another le is more likely. The Spurs or Celtics, the Magic, Cavaliers, Rockets or Mavericks. He mentions them all. He doesn't regard a Lakers reunion as realistic -- "I love their chemistry, but I don't see myself fitting into their team." And nothing is close to happening, so much nothing that initial Sacramento-San Antonio talks never advanced and that Horry's limited contact with the Spurs has been casual conversation.

But Horry would like to be a somewhere. Even Sacramento.

I want Rob back for the playoffs. I don't trust Bonner in games that matter, whereas Rob is the greatest role player in the history of the league in games that matter. I still think the Spurs ed up picking Finley over Rob this offseason.

Fans thank Horry for what he did to Spurs. And there is still one mission left: help Spurs make a trade with Kings or NJ or anybody (I may sounds desperate but with championship opportunity waiting on the line, I'll take any chances to make SA roster even more lethal). Our roster is capable of bringin down another championship to the Alamo.
The only 2 things I see to upgrade our current lethal roster are:
    1. a capable Big Man along Tim Duncan to backup Bonner or replace Bonner if his number slumps (With current Bonners number from previous 2 games (more average more than 22 points and great rebounds, i highly doubt anybody can give us more than that).
    2. A slasher who cut through defense, draw a foul or create points..just like Paul Pierce type of player. This will be accomplished in the form of Vinsanity. However the money issue needs to be figured out, its hard but it still possible provided they dont ask for Mason and Hill both. Maximum only one of them included in the trade not two.

If we got another great player to our great roster, than championship is assured. Better book it... if not then there will still room for errors, make sure we are not a jumpshooting team in bad shots day: Manu and Tony drive the lane more often.

Horry is probably the greatest role player/play maker a team can have in the playoffs.

His IQ is maybe the highest of anyone in the league.

Robert Horry needs to stay retired- unless Pop wants to pick him up for us, which seems highly unlikely.

I like that Rob finished his career with us. I don't want any other team to get him.

It's hilarous how badly Horry is jonesing to play basketball again. It's just eating him up...

What makes it hilarious is he has such a rep for dogging it...

Big Shot Rob'll be back in the NBA before this season is over IMO, and if the man says he's not done yet...he's not done yet....so I hope it's not Boston.

Every single time he's been traded or let go before, they said he was done when they were doing it.

Horry's time is past. He was obviously on fumes last year. IQ won't help you hit shots, jump, rebound, etc.

Yes because it takes so much physical ability to shoot a 3....that's why Steve Kerr made an entire career of it playing on one knee.

If there is still an open roster spot after the trade deadline and the Spurs don't call up Pops from the D-League I'd love to see them add Horry to the roster.

I'm up in the air about how I feel about Horry on the court. But I have no doubt about what he can bring to the team in the locker room. That experience, that IQ, can only help, plus he knows the system.

I personally think Horry can still rebound and block shots as well as Thomas, Bonner or Oberto...it's not like those guys are putting up dominant numbers in those stats this year or anything...particularly the shotblocking. Thomas probaby is a better rebounder, but that's all he is.

Additionally, Horry has shown a willingness to accept the role of someone who puts other guys on their butts to send a message, and none of these other guys show much of that.

That's one thing I'd like to see Bonner do more of...he may not ever be all NBA D...but he's definitely big and strong enough to be a lot more physical on the defensive side of the ball. He used to be more physical...even when he first got to the Spurs he was more physical than he is now.

I reiterate what I've said millions of times before.

Robert Horry can play on my basketball team any day.

He showed in that game 7 in New Orleans his game and clutchness is still there.

If he wants to play, sign him up.

Hey, Id much rather see Horry come back than us make a stupid trade for a guy like VC or some other clown. Horry is a big, can play defense, knows the playbook and probably lots more. Im for it.

Don't forget about the medical problems he had with his daughter last season. He may be done, or he may not. But last season might not be the best barometer. I remember people saying the same things about Nolan Ryan, and he still had some really good years left. Some guys are like that, and Horry is a good candidate to be one or them because he plays smart.

I'll say this... in the last seconds of a nail-biter game there is nobody I would rather have inbound the basketball than Robert Horry. I know you wouldn't bring a guy in just for that purpose, but the point is that he is really good in certain clutch situations. He doesn't make stupid mistakes. He's not likely to totally blow a defensive assignment in the last few possessions and lose a game. And he can suck out a cheap foul on the other team better than anybody.

Sometimes those little things are the difference between winning and losing a game. And how much is a single game worth in a 7 game series?

Isn't it a little strange how he is coming out and saying "he would love to play again" now that everyone is talking about him being included in a trade? Doesn't he have to show intent to play if he is to be signed and traded?

I would expect the Spurs to give Horry a call if they don't find a reasonable deal for a bigman before the trade deadline.

    Uh.

Robert Horry sucks. Did you guys even watch him during his limited playtime last year? His IQ is also vastly overrated and does not compensate for his age and lack of NBA ability at this stage in his career.

I'm down for using Horry as a trading tool but anything else is lmao.

I thought he did horrible in the playoffs last year. We should look for someone else.

Everytime I read someone wanted to resign him, I remember the image of him passing up a wide open 10' shot on the baseline in a LA playoffs game. I was thinking man, this guy is hurting us more then anything. Forgot which game though.

To be honest I think we can do fine with this team we have now. The chemistry is getting a lot better and by playoffs if everyone is healthy bring it!

Bonner scares are taken into consideration but let him learn, only way he will get better. For goodness sakes, we had Fransico Elson at one point on a championship team.
