    Fund-raising roast targets ‘Ice Man’
    Melissa Fletcher Stoeltje - Express-News

The flames will be scorching hot — but funny, no doubt — at the upcoming celebrity roast of legendary Spurs player George “The Ice Man” Gervin, to be held Saturday at the Convention Center.

Hosted by Sean Elliott, the event will bring in a plethora of shining lights to honor and tease the retired NBA basketball player and San Antonio favorite. A fund-raising evening to benefit the George Gervin Youth Center Capital Expansion Campaign, the roast will feature such big names as NBA legends Bill Russell (Celtics), Julius Erving (76ers), Artis Gilmore (Spurs/Bulls), Clyde Drexler (Rockets), “Fatty” Roland Taylor (Nuggets) and many more.

Celebrities to appear on the red carpet include Ahmad Rashad (“NBA Inside Stuff”), Priest Holmes (formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs), Jesse James Leija (former World Champion boxer), Robert Horry (formerly of the Spurs) and others.

The George Gervin Youth Center is a nonprofit organization that provides academic education for grades pre-K through sixth and ninth-12th, child care, vocational training, remedial education, tutoring, job placement and supportive services for more than 1,400 youths and their families.

    For more information, visit www.iceman44.org.

For more information on the event and a full list of celebrity guests, go to www.ggcelebrityroast.org. Tickets cost $100 %and are available through www.tickets4anyevent.com or by calling (210) 558-3400.

It's a shame they scheduled it when the Spurs have a day game the next day. They always do this.

Who always does this? This isn't a Spurs event, so they didn't pick the date. And the current Spurs players aren't necessarily scheduled to be there.
