4th quarter: Paul Pierce 18, Mavericks 17
What a got. There is nobody that has ever walked on this planet that I detest more than Devean " Breath" George. I'd rather open mouth kiss the corpse of Saddam Hussein than have to spend 1 second in the presence of the biggest piece of to ever wear a Mavs uni (and yes, I do remember Loren Meyer).
I honestly do not understand how he gets any playing time. I don't think I've ever seen him do anything positive since his performance in game 5 of the 04 Spurs-Lakers series.
defensive specialist= picking quick stupid fouls.
Bird Rights !
And letting Paul Pierce curbstomp you at every available opportunity.
That er gave me the cold shoulder at the mall once.
while George sucks, what did you want him to do? Pierce is one of the best clutch players in the NBA, he made some tough shots too..
Breath has a championship pedigree.
Are the Mav fans trying to pin this loss on George? You were leading by 15 with all the momentum. Then the Celtics pop you in the mouth and pick up their physicality, and you fold like a cheap tent. The Mavs are soft and that's what cost them this game.
Waiting till the shot is already off before finally reacting and getting a hand in his face isn't what I had in mind.
I'd normally say that, but tonight had nothing to do with softness. KG tried to bully Dirk and Dirk stood up to him and played great. The team played well, and a few open shots didn't go down.
If Jason Terry plays, the Mavs win this one easy. Paul Pierce didn't heat up until Devean George was put on him.
IMO he did force Pierce into a few tough shots.
That slap fall was stupid.
Quite frankly though, is there anyone better on our roster? You could say Green, but he's a defensive liability... although we could've used offense in the 4th.
Are you ing kidding me? Uncontested jumpers aren't tough shots.
Yeah, people need to shut the up. This wasn't a choke, this wasn't softness, it was bad execution due to offensively limited players.
It's not a choke when you lose to the BETTER team. 15 point lead can EASILY be eaten up in 18 minutes, especially with our best 4th Q player out.
Allow me to reiterate, it was Dirk 1 v 5 against the best defense in the league. You can see how little pressure Kidd and Damp put on the defenses, it makes things congested and difficult.
Our Mavs fought hard tonight, it just wasn't enough.
We need to make a move, nothing tonight made me think any differently about the Mavs. Win or lose, I still know our strengths and flaws. So I can't be that upset.
But, we need to make a ing move.
Shockingly enough, Josh Howard's foul trouble killed us. If J-Ho was on Pierce most of the 4th quarter, those shots wouldn't have gone in for him.
I dunno, I thought those shots by pierce down the stretch were somewhat difficult, decent defense by George just a better shot.
But again, who ELSE would guard Pierce? Kidd wasn't having much luck either. Simply put, we dont have a "Pierce stopper" on our roster lol, if such a thing exists.
The little things annoyed me tonight. Josh blew a layup, we didn't execute the fast break twice (could've been up 17, instead Dirk tries to save back other way for KG dunk)... a lot of in and outs.
Very irking. Dirk missed 3 FT's as well, but no complaints about our beloved Dirk tonight.
But this game is over and done with, our beloved Mavs need to move on, and make a damn trade.
I thought Josh Howard did a great job. You can't shut down Pierce completely, but he played him very well.
Not true!
They had Jason Kidd and JJ Barea on Pierce in the high iso play before George.
Pierce was already warmed up when George tried to guard him.
I wasn't calling Dirk out. Dirk actually showed why he's as good or better than KG (one of the recurring arguments on this board). The rest of the Mavs stood around nutless and bricking jumpers when Thibodeau decided to get the ball out of Dirk's hands.
Also, the reason Pierce heated up is the stupid switches on the pick-n-roll that gave him mismatches at the top of the key. It isn't hard to heat up with Kidd or the Puerto Rican midget guarding you. George actually avoided switching and tried to stay with Pierce ... of course it was too late then as Pierce had hit his groove already.
Pierce hit one shot on JJ. Barea actually played pretty decent defense on him every time he got switched.
Yeah, unfortunate that J-Ho fouled out.
J-Ho had a few nice moments tonight, btu a few vexing moments as well.
Ugh, I would sleep much easier tonight if our beloved Mavs won. Its just 1 game, and I didn't expect a win except when we were up 15, but ugh it hurts. IT HUTS![]()
personally i thought george actually defended the shots quite well. they were just bizzare shots that pierce was lucky to have go in, while it seemed like at least 7 or 8 of the mavericks shots in the 4th kept rimming in and out. luck simply was not on the mavericks side tonight. very tough loss to swallow.
