Wow! A brief glimpse of class from the Big Cactus. I feel amost...dirty.
Take a look at the excerpt of this article from ESPN. I never heard Shaq give this much love to David. I always remember him telling the story about David ignoring him at a game when he was in high school.
Maybe because it's Valentines tomorrow.
Phoenix center Shaquille O'Neal, who is representing the West in the All-Star Game, said he congratulated Robinson on being a finalist.http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3905350
O'Neal said Robinson was one of three players -- Patrick Ewing and Rony Seikaly were the others -- that he patterned his game after as a high schooler.
"I told Dave something I never told anyone in my life before: I told him he deserved it," O'Neal said. "I told him that he was always my favorite player."
Asked why Robinson was his favorite, O'Neal said: "Because he had the spin-lob thing. He always ran the court. He was a nice-looking guy, so when I was in high school, designing my game, I picked him, Patrick Ewing and Rony Seikaly."

shaq has always been one of the classiest guys in the league. shaq probably has the biggest heart of any nba player too. people just get him misconstrued because he is also a joker.
Yes, props to the Big Diesel for showing some class and respect.![]()
you Shaq......dammit man, stop trying to make me not dislike your fat ass so much....sheesh
F Shaq. He did nothing but dump on, lie about, and ridicule DRob during his career. Shove it up your ass, fatty.
Yeah, I know. I never take him too seriously when he does his shtick for the cameras. Shaq's the Big Entertainer. It just suprised me to see him acknowledge patterning part of his game after David and that he was his favorite player.

That lie about him getting turned down for an autograph is gonna stick with me forever. Regardless of anything Shaq does, he'll always be a bag for that.
+1
Nevertheless, it's about time that Shaq finally decided to give The Admiral his props. Surprising really.
I will always love Rony Seikaly's wife.
And f Shaq.
yeah, but he did that to motivate himself becausse he needed something to dislike about Rob, heck Dave is a nice guy, why would nayone want to destroy him. I just loved that on his way out he dethrone the Lakers, thanks David
Which is more than you can say for Rony, since they are divorced...

F Shaq. His efforts to make nice can't erase the unfair public criticism and outright jealously of D-Rob, throughout his playing career. He's a 100% douch to me.
In 1995 Shaq was asked to list the top 5 centers in the nba, and he listed Hakeem, Patrick, Dikembe, Himself, and one other. I cannot remember the others, but one was con uously missing. Right in the middle of one of David's most dominating seasons, MVP in fact.
With all that being said, I call BS on shaq. Screw him and the 17 horses that he barely rode in on.
F Shaq.
I thought Robinson was a WNBA player
You 'Helen Keller' muh-fuggers that say that Shaq has been at all classy (save this one Robinson proper) at any point in his career (in particular when D-Rob was still banging this league) need to get your eyes, ears and brains checked. I try not to call out people like this but to state that Shaq embodies any sort of class (outside of personal worth) is abso-f*cking-lutely re-f*cking-diculous.![]()
Shaq >> DRob
there ya go
At a buffet.
Karma is a , but that wheel ALWAYS turns. I laugh watching Shaq labor up and down the court, when for years, the only thing he exercised in the off season was his mouth. David had health problems his last year, playing only 64 games, but the three seasons before that, he played 238 games. The last span where Shaq played that many games in 3 years running? His first, second, and third seasons in the NBA.![]()
I think Shaq has a personality disorder. First he comes out and says him and Kobe were always "good friends", despite the fact they both hated each other just two years ago, and spins it by saying it was all a media thing. Now he's always looked up to David Robinson.
What next, is he going to say that David Robinson was his true father figure when he was growing up. Give me a break.
Any way you slice it, Shaq loves the media.
So, if it makes for good storylines to diss the Spurs (WNBA), DRob, dismissing his HS years in SA, or patting DRob on the back when he becomes a finalist today, he'll say it.
I think he in fact does like DRob, Tim, Pop, Spurs, SA and secretly wants to be a Spur if at all possible. What he says though depends on what plays well on the papers.
