No favor, a salary dump.

Looks like the Fakers have turned around and given Memphis a return present for the Gasol early Xmas gift of last year.
The Memphis Grizzlies added depth to the team’s frontcourt by acquiring Chris Mihm from the Los Angeles Lakers, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. The Grizzlies also received cash considerations in exchange for a 2013 protected second round draft pick. The 7-0, 265-pound center holds career averages of 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.02 blocks in 20.1 minutes in eight seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and Lakers.
It's too bad the Spurs couldn't have gotten this guy for the same low, low price. Obviously, I know the Fakers would NEVER do business with a rival - much less the Spurs.
No favor, a salary dump.
It's memphis doing the lakers another solid. The lakers are just dumping Mihm off on Memphis to save $3 mil in luxury tax money. Memphis is just playing along because they can make some cash out of the deal. Mihm's a free agent after the year and I doubt he's got plans of sticking around Grizzly-town.
My point is I'm sure the Fakers dealt exclusively with the Grizz in this salary dump. They probably has first right of refusal.
Yeah, you could be right. Maybe part of the Gasol deal, stretching the rules, was an under the table deal for the next ten years LA giving that $3 million allowed in trades to the Grizz.
This move was made in a jealous fit of pique -- Memphis feels like the Lakers' D League team is moving in on them.
The lakers chose Memphis because they're the only team under the salary cap.
I'm sure Jerry West was nowhere to be found![]()
A protected SECOND ROUND draft pick? Since when did second round picks get protected?
There are a few teams far enough under to have absorbed Mihm's salary.
Bottom line -- Mihm is worthless and the Lakers got a 2d round pick. (Like if Houston took Jackie Butler, gave the Spurs a 2d round pick, and left Scola out of the deal).
Don't remind me of the Gasol trade
BTW, why did West give the WC trophy to the Lakers last season? Coincidence.....
And Buss saved $5 million.
If the Spurs want Mihm, he can still be had. Remember, players can be traded by themselves even immediately after being acquired.

For example, we could do the trade below, saving Memphis $150,000, as well as sending them cash if they wanted more.

Wait until revenue sharing in the next CBA .
It's been going on for a while. Mostly in trades exactly like this one. Odds are that 2nd round pick is protected to some ridiculous level where Memphis will never have to give it up. So the Lakers end up just dumping Mihm to save luxury tax money, and they send Memphis enough cash to cover the remainder of Mihm's salary and a little extra for the help.
Yeah, a 5% revenue share is really going to LA up.
We'll see. Nice little NFL-style revenue sharing and hard cap should do the trick.
The more I think about this, the more I want it to happen. (Disclaimer: I'm a Chris Mihm fan.) I know a lot of you aren't very high on Mihm, but here's why I think it would be a good deal for the Spurs:
-He's been struggling with injuries the last couple years, but he's finally healthy. The last year when he was fully healthy (2005-06), he averaged 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game in 24.9 MPG, while shooting 50% from the field and 71.6% from the free throw line.
-He's been with the Lakers for a while, which means if anyone knows how to guard the Lakers big men, it's him, since he has guarded them in practice every single day.
-The trade costs the Spurs virtually nothing, giving up only Udoka and Vaughn (and maybe some cash).
These days the Spurs need to be a fan of anyone over 6-10.
Somehow I don't think the Lakers are done making deals.
