I'm setting up an Ipod for my mom, and I'm loading all of her favorite CDs onto a new Ipod, well I took a couple of CDs and loaded em up, synched the Ipod, but the CDs won't transferto the Ipod.

    What am I doing wrong?

You have to import the CD into itunes first, and then import the songs to the ipod. When you put a CD in, there should be a button in the bottom left that says 'import cd'

pretty short thread, guess the problem got solved.

I just started using itunes to organize my mp3 collection on my computer (don't have an ipod). For all the stuff I ripped myself, or d/l p2p, I can edit ID3 info and add cover artwork, etc.

However, for albums I get from friends (mp3 files), when I import the folders into itunes, it will not let me edit anything. I can't change spelling or formatting of group names, or album les, or add cover artwork either.

Is there a way around this?

thanks for those last two very helpful posts...

Hey man, you can use the itunes program free to organize your mp3 collection on your computer. It's a pretty cool program. Who said I was using iTunes for buying anything? You can use the itunes program for organizational purposes only, I'm not going to the itunes store for buying anything... jeez.

I've never bought anything from apple... phone, music, computer, or anything else.

iTunes is a fairly incompetent program. There are several other media players out there that I would use well before iTunes. The reason iTunes is good for the general public is it requires no computer knowledge to use, and does every single step for you, albeit inefficiently.

I highly recommend winamp or songbird over iTunes.

However, if you DO decide to use iTunes, I suggest you go into your settings and set it to rip songs at the highest possible bitrate. It makes a big difference in quality.

I use winamp mostly. I just downloaded itunes recently to play around with it. I'm not intending to purchase anything through itunes. I do like how you can scroll through pics of your album covers.
Yeah, it does everything for you. Once you figure out what it is doing, you can somewhat control it.

Anyway, I figured out my problem myself... where I could not edit some albums and/or some tracks. Those particular folders/tracks had a "read only" attribute, so I unchecked that attribute, now it is working fine.
