Rumor Mill 2/25: Marbury to choose Boston over LA, Pistons coach on hot seat

2/25/09 The season long soap opera in New York City that hovered over the Knicks and Stephon Marbury is now over. The Boston Globe reports the Knicks and Marbury agreed to a buyout of his $21.3 million dollar deal yesterday, and that once Steph clears waivers, he will sign with the defending world champions on Friday. Marbury would receive $1.3 million dollars to join Boston for the finally month and a half of the regular season and playoffs. Marbury, who earned millions this season already, yet had not played a game, clearly comes out the big winner in this, as he gets a chance to play for the NBA le this year. The Celtics get Marbury at a bargain, and more importantly, keep him as an insurance policy for Rajon Rondo. Perhaps most importantly, if the deal is done Friday, Boston keeps Steph away from the Lakers hands.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting we could have another head coach in trouble. With the Pistons dropping their 7th straight game, and 16 out of the last 21, Pistons coach Michael Curry may be on the hot seat. The Pistons, who are currently 27-28, have not been under .500 this late in the season since 2002, and fans are getting restless over the Allen Iverson experiment. While many feel that things could get better quick in Detroit, if they are able to land a young dominant big man like Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer, nothing is guaranteed.
Finally, good news for Wizards fans, according to The Washington Post. Gilbert Arenas said he has been practicing with the team at full strength for over a week, and his knee feels good as new. Arenas did not say if he would be able to return to play the remainder of this regular season, but all signs are pointing to a complete recovery.
