and I came across one of the most unique names I have seen in a long, long time.

    C Chief Kickingstallionsims Alabama St.
    7-1
    265
    22 yrs old

He isnt anything special....well except his name.

I hope he can make it to the NBA for at least 1 season just so I can see that name on the back of the jersey and hear the announcers fumble his name.

I am wondering if he is Native American, and if so, what tribe.

Alabama State center Chief Kickingstallionsims wants to make big name for himself

    Saturday, January 19, 2008

    MIKE PERRIN
    News staff writer

Chief Kickingstallionsims is trying to move into the spotlight with the
Alabama State Hornets. It's hard to stay in the shadows when you're a
7-foot-1, 255-pound guy with shoulder-length dreadlocks and a name that
    won't fit on any jerseys.

Kickingstallionsims has begun to emerge from the background for the
Hornets, earning 11 starting assignments for coach Lewis Jackson's 7-7
squad. The redshirt junior, who sat out last season after transferring from
Stetson University, is making a name for himself for more than just his
    name.

ASU's center is averaging 9.4 points a game this season - third behind
teammates Andrew Hayles and Brandon Gordon - and his 63.2 percent
field-goal percentage is tops in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Alabama State, 3-1 in the SWAC, will play host to in-state league rival
    Alabama A&M (4-10, 1-3) tonight at 6 o'clock at Montgomery's Acadome.

Kickingstallionsims , a Native American of Navajo heritage, said he knows he
stands out because of his name and his size. He hears plenty of abuse from
    opposing teams' fans.

"They do so-called Indian chants or make other sounds," he said, "and call
me names, but I don't let that affect me. I don't pay attention to it.

"I get my name from my dad, the Native American side of the family. People
do ask me about it all the time, they question the origin of it and I just
tell them what I know about it."

Chief is not a nickname, but is actually Kickingstallionsims ' middle name.
His first name, Grlenntya, means "strength of falling rock," he said.

"My middle name is after my grandpa," he said. "He always looked at me as a
    leader."

The 21-year-old Kickingstallionsims said he hasn't had any connection to
the Navajo tribe. "Most people think, `You're Native American? They aren't
in existence anymore,'" he said. "I'm just me."

Kickingstallionsims said he left Stetson because he felt he wasn't
developing as a player as he'd hoped.

"I'm gradually improving now," he said. "I've got a lot more things to work
on, but I've improved from Stetson to now and I'm not going to stop now.

"I have the ability to hit the short jumper, but my go-to move is my jump
hook. Mostly my game is with my back to the basket."

The A&M game will pit Kickingstallionsims against one of the top centers in
the league in Mickell Gladness. Gladness is the top shot-blocker in the
conference and is third in the nation with 4.6 per game.

"I've seen him play on multiple occasions," Kickingstallionsims said. "I
feel like he can't stop me. He will if I turn inside to him, but I feel if
I go to my go-to move he can't stop me."

The ASU center is averaging just 3.9 rebounds a game while Gladness claims
    7.5.

"I've been up and down," Kickingstallionsims said. "A lot of the offensive
teams try to pull me away from the basket by bringing their big men to the
perimeter. I've got to work hard on my rebounding."

Gladness is 6'11, 205....he would get abused down low in the NBA......however, as an off the ball defender, he would own the glass and block tons of shots.

If he can bulk up about 20-30 lbs and still keep most of his agility and athleticism, he could be a very nice role player for some team. I see him in either the D-League or Europe next season.

Damn, that jersey would rock ... Really feel bad for the guy though, people can be pretty ruthless in college hoops, hope his skin is really thick.

I was as surprised as you are the first time I saw it. There was also the kid named Carrywater. If he's not the water boy then the universe just isn't as funny of a place as I thought.

For the day 3 years from now when Not Afraid and Carrywater do a vanity search on google and come up with this page, it's just jokes. I'm sure you're fine upstanding citizens, and much much much (MUCH) better basketball players than I am.
