Next thing they need to address is a safety.
Not a bad start.....
Adding Kitna, a decent backup QB (I don't know about giving away Henry) and now signing Brooking will be a great addition to the LB core.
Next thing they need to address is a safety.
Eh, Kitna had back problems last year so hopefully he's gotten over that.
and as for Henry, he was starting to suck. WR's just blow by him now, and if he was going to move to safety as many were speculating, it would have to be FS, which is Hamlin's spot, so Henry wasn't needed around Valley Ranch anymore.
time for Jenkins and Scandrick to step up. Both are much faster than Henry.
Not wild about losing Canty, but NY gave him 42 mil. Can't blame him for signing.
Jerra needs to get busy and lock D Ware up long term!
He's gonna have to come with more money than Haynesworth got.
cowboys definitely need to now work on getting a safety
and i heard the other day that they will be starting Felix Jones this year, with Barber coming off the bench, kinda going back to the old Julius/Barber type of system. that should help a lot.
I gotta say that one gives me acid indigestion, but if the Cowboys don't address their secondary it doesn't matter. Getting rid of Henry's a big step forward.
is NY planning on moving him inside?
Henry for Kitna was a great move! I wonder who they are going to go for in the draft.
Im not a dallas fan but I dont think Henry for Kitna was a good move. Henry did have his share of getting smoked but I dont know if Jenkins or Scandrick can step up or else they would have last year. Why didnt they just draft a backup QB? Kitna was good in Cinci a few years back before injury has caught up to him. WTF were they thinking getting Brooking. Are they trying to have one of the oldest linebacker corps in the NFL? er is going to walk out there in a walker. They should have tried to trade for a safety but then again even as a cowboy hater it was painful watching brad johnson out there.
Is Kitna just a wildcard till Vick is ready to be a cowboy?
i agree. i would rather have moved henry to safety than trade him. i and think getting kitna of all people is dumb. if it were me, i would draft a QB instead and start grooming him.
If Vick signs it will be for a team he can have a chance to start for. Romo is the man in Cowboy land and trading for Kitna means no Vick for sure even if he was willing to be a back up. I hope the Vikings get him.
They can still draft a qb. Kitna is 36. I'm sure this guy won't be a Cowboy more than 2 years
he would have been an improvment over OU Roy for sure. Yeah exactlly even a rookie would be an upgrade from Brad Johnson. It makes me feel like Jerry is still in we have to win now at ude. You guys have a lot of young good guys but these old ass farts arent going to help tomm(today for that fact)
they can tudor the young guys
Love it, guy wanted to much money, and Hatcher imo, is the better player of the two.
The thinking in getting Kitna is probably that the Cowboys would have made the playoffs if BJ hadn't been so bad as a backup. It doesn't really address any problem the team has, but addressing problems isn't really the MO of this organization.
lol..heard your show today Chris...great one. Still dreaming of Ray Ray. I am too..with the signing of Brooking and Stewart it ain't looking to likely..we can still pray though.
Dallas Cowboys sign former Chargers DE Olshansky
IRVING – The Cowboys filled a large vacancy on their defensive line Friday by signing former San Diego Chargers defensive end Igor Olshansky.
The Ukraine-born Olshansky received a four-year deal worth $18 million with approximately $8 million guaranteed.
Like linebackers Keith Brooking and Matt Stewart, two other Cowboys additions this off-season, Olshansky (6-6, 309) has a history with coach Wade Phillips, who was his defensive coordinator for three seasons in San Diego.
With defensive tackle Chris Canty leaving via free agency for the New York Giants on a six-year, $42 million deal last week, the Cowboys acted quickly on Olshansky. He visited Thursday and signed Friday.
In 75 games with the Chargers, Olshansky, a second-round pick in 2004, was credited by the coaches with 151 tackles and 11 sacks. In 64 games with the Cowboys, Canty had 197 tackles and 10 sacks
The Cowboys now have Olshansky, Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher, Stephen Bowen (restricted free agent) and Marcus Dixon, who spent last season on the practice squad, at defensive end. Jay Ratliff earned Pro Bowl honors at nose tackle but also can play defensive end.

Nice move for the d-line. He will be a great guy to have in the rotation.

Owens' exit creates chance for Dallas Cowboys' Austin
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
[email protected]
IRVING – Miles Austin was among a number of players who received a text message from Terrell Owens late Wednesday saying that Owens was no longer a member of the Cowboys.
Like many of his teammates, Austin said he was surprised by the move. Suddenly, he finds himself in position, along with Patrick Crayton, to compete for the starting wide receiver spot opposite Roy Williams.
"Obviously, it's an opportunity, and I'm excited for the challenge," Austin said. "It gives me a shot now to get more time and also show the coaches what I can do. But when it's all said and done, you still have to perform when they call on you."
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Thursday on NFL Network that part of the reason for Owens' release was the belief Jones has in some of the team's younger receivers, and Austin is at the top of that list.
Austin earned a roster spot as an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth in 2006 and has slowly moved up the ranks – from special teamer and kick returner to a potential speed threat at wide receiver.
The Cowboys think so highly of Austin that they placed the $1.545 million tender on him as a restricted free agent. As a result, another team would have to send a second-round pick to the Cowboys if it wanted to acquire Austin.
The Cowboys like Austin's combination of size (6-3, 216) and speed, which he flashed at times last season, finishing with 13 catches for 278 yards and three touchdowns.
But two knee injuries – one suffered in the preseason and another in Week 11 at Washington – kept Austin out of four games last season, just as he appeared on the verge of becoming a bigger part of the offense.
Austin had two catches for 115 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown grab, in a 27-16 win over Green Bay in Week 3. He also had a crucial, third-down catch a play before Martellus Bennett's 25-yard, game-winning touchdown reception in a 14-10 win at Washington in Week 11.
In three seasons, Austin has 18 catches for 354 yards, so the Cowboys will not ask him to replace Owens, who has the second-most touchdown receptions, fifth-most receiving yards and sixth-most catches in NFL history.
"I wouldn't say there's any added pressure, not at all," Austin said. "I take every day, every game, every practice and have the same type of intensity.
"I'm not going to change or do anything different. I'm going to continue to be who I am and continue to work on perfecting my craft."
