Caracas - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday called upon US President Barack Obama to follow the path to socialism, which he termed as the "only" way out of the global recession. "Come with us, align yourself, come with us on the road to socialism. This is the only path. Imagine a socialist revolution in the United States," Chavez told a group of workers in the southern Venezuelan state of Bolivar.

The controversial Venezuelan leader, who taunted the United States as a source of capitalistic evil under former president George W Bush, added that the United States needs a leader who can take it to a "higher" destiny and bring it out of "the sad role that it has been given, as a murderous, attacking power that is hated all around the world."

Chavez said that people are calling Obama a "socialist" for the measures of state intervention he is taking to counter the crisis, so it would not be too far-fetched to suggest that he might join the project of "21st century socialism" that the Venezuelan leader is heading.

"Nothing is impossible. Who would have thought in the 1980s that the Soviet Union would disappear? No one," he said.

"That murderous, genocidal empire has to end, and some day there has to come a leader ... who interprets the best of a people who also include human beings who suffer, endure, weep and laugh," the outspoken Chavez said.

    Developing...

you want to hear something funny?

15 minutes ago on cali radio network (conservative radio), on the Monica Crowley Show, she was praising Tanya Harding for being a conservative. Wants her join in on bashing obama.

    that party is clueless.

you want to hear something else funny?

3 days ago on AM1240 (conservative radio) Sean Hannity was encouraging those bailed out banks and corps. to keep sending their people on the Vegas type junkits.

I just spent the past week driving from Boston to SLC. And for the first time in my life I listened to Rush Limbaugh (for about 30 minutes). In Ohio and Nebraska he was on literally every single AM station that wasn't devoted solely to Jesus. And I suspect on those, he was just penciled in for a later time slot. Pretty sickening.

I don't care what side of the political spectrum you are on, if you don't admit Rush and Hannity are tools then you have serious problems.

At least with Hannity, if you agree with what he says or not, he almost always reaches his conclusion with stupid arguments.

They're both tools. The funny part is the Obama Administration has its panties in a bunch over one of them. But I guess it's a nice diversion from the fact that they either can't come up with any good solutions for the economy or are deliberately doing what they're doing to tank it.

I'm not threatening to kick anybody's ass (so I don't get why you'd call me an internet tough guy). I'm also not quaking in my boots over fears that Obama's presidency is a vast liberal conspiracy meant to purposely destroy America.

I guess if you don't see such fears as paranoid & scared delusions, that's on you.

Hey, at this point, there's two options as to what Team Obama is doing with the economy:

    1) they are grossly incompetent

    2) they know exactly what they are doing and are determined to turn us into a socialist country dependent on government and its ruling elite for everything.

Take your pick, both options suck ass for our future.

It's very concerning that the way things are headed that by 2012, China and us will have changed places as far as them having a free market economy and us having one run by our government.

Obama's an egomaniac and he's going down this path of him and his administration (and big government) have the only right answers as to how our country should be run, and from what I've seen so far that would be an epic disaster.

I'm tired of the hypocritical left. You guys were ing and moaning about W.'s deficit, and now along comes Obama with a first year budget that runs a bigger deficit than the sum of the deficits of every other president in our nation's history combined, and you guys are sucking him off for his greatness. Hypocrites.

    * Disclaimer: yes, I know Bush sucked as president, so spare me the 'well, W. sucked too' response.

I hate this bail out and think its a bad idea. And I don't think Obama oozes greatness. But I also think they're gonna do the big government thing cuz thats what they do, so all I can do is pray and hope that government gives some of that power back if this ends up working.

There a difference between government intervention in the down markets, a 3% tax increase on income over $250,000, health-care reform... and outright socialism. It's just ridiculous to suggest that we're turning into China or that this is the end of the free-market.

The chips are down, the only way to solve it is to infuse cash into the economy and banks, the only en y with enough cash (or borrowing power) to infuse such an amount is the federal government. Does it suck? Yes. Especially given the deficits Obama inherited, but what should he do? Let the banks collapse? Let everybody's retirement and savings completely disappear? that. And calling it socialism.

Socialism would imply a vast re-distribution of wealth. And I fail to see how returning to the tax code of the 90's in any way equates to a totalitarian power grab.

None of this is new. It's definitely being done on a larger scale than it has in the past (a much larger scale) but progressive taxes and the federal government intervening in a failing economy are nothing new to this country.

Oh, huffer, we should be so lucky as to try and do as China is doing.

"Investors had expected a spending package on top of the 4 trillion yuan (US$584 billion) stimulus announced last November and to be spent over the next two years. Instead, they heard Wen outline plans, not clearly part of that package or in addition to it, that included a lower tax burden for individuals and companies, higher fixed asset investment, and permission for municipal governments to raise money by selling through the Finance Ministry 200 billion yuan in bonds"

    http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China_Business/KC06Cb06.html

Seems they are more capitalist than Obama's administration. But
of course how would you know, you more than likely never read any-
    thing but Moveon.org.

That it doesn't work isn't new either.
