I just bought a web cam, and I am trying to use the video call function through windows live messenger but I am having problems. Does anyone know how to help?

Ya, that is the problem, when I go to do that, I get this message:
"we are unable to run audio/video setup". I cannot get into it.
You running McAfee by chance?

Yes. I saw that they are working on a patch, and I received instructions on how to "work around it". Only problem is that when I try and save my changes in the applicable file, it says "cannot save, make sure file path and name are correct".
If it doesn't take too long to explain, just to quell my curiosity, what was the fix?
Basically, that patch that you posted (that I found as well) was accurate. The thing is, that my file I needed to modify was hidden. I had to go into my comp, allow "full access" so I was able to execute the code. I also had to disable my McAfee in order to do this. Once I did that, I was able to follow the directions to get around the mis-communication between MWL and McAfee (Change Enable=1 to Enable=0).
There's a known problem with messenger and Vista, and you can resolve it using this work around:
1. Start a voice call only; the sliders should then be active
2. Request the other persons webcam once voice is active.
3. When you can see their cam, send your own.
This thread just goes to show why McAfee is a piece of crap for an anti-virus program.
Avast or AVG all the way.
mcafee and norton both suck ass and that is why i am glad i own a mac and don't run any bs virus scanner.
I'd rather download a free virus scanner that does a fine job of protecting my computer and pocket the 600 to 1000 bucks I saved by not buying a Mac.
