As the Spurs defensive stopper has been found.

Forget Roman Sato, Lindon Johnson the 3, Ime Udoka, etc.

His name is George Hill. I am convinced he can do the job after these 2 games. With a lil time I'm sure he'll be able to start effecting the games of greater players.

Too small to be a true Bowen replacement. Pop has rarely put him on a non-point guard. Bowen can guard 1 thru 4. Hill has only shown the ability to guards 1s.

Hairston has shown alot signs of being a stopper. I'm not sure if he could become the specialist that Bowen is but he is definitely better then Udoka.

Only defencive problems I have seen from Hairston so far this year is a couple of missed rotations, but being a rookie he should improve on that with time. I don't count that mishap in Dallas that seems to have benched him for the year because it was pretty much a cop-out since he had to leave his man to cover Jason Kidd because someone else left him wide open.

As for Hill he is definitely a stopper but as already said he lacks the size to be vestal. However for the times when we play teams that have all-star PGs and a few SGs such as Nash,CP, etc it's going to be pretty awesome to have such a player as him out there.

As timvp, Bruce is/was able to guard player 1 thru 4. Spurs won't find a player with that versatility. Players like Bruce don't grow on trees.

Bowen's "replacement" will likely be 2 or 3 players with something like one to defend 1 and short 2, one to defend 2 and 3 , one to defend long 3 and mobile 4.

In a perfect world, Hill + Hairston + Gist will be Bruce replacement.

Hill is a long 6-foot-3. Bowen is a long 6-foot-7.

I think there's a chance Hill could be a good defender against shooting guards ... but we haven't seen much of that at all this season.

I don't think so, he would hold his own but Kobe would murder him on post-ups I would think.

other than Dirk, who doesn't play like a 4, what PF has bowen ever guarded any better than Bonner could?

Hill'll be a better PG defender, and should be as effective at guarding the 2. and 2 positions is plenty, just about every good team has a 1 or 2 that needs stopping.

I like Hill as a defensive specialist, playing along side manu or TP, more than as a PG for the time being

hill is good, he'll be a PG version of Bowen, hopefully with a little more offensive fire-power though

those long arms would make kobe's turnaround jumpers tough, even if he could muscle his way closer to the basket first

Maybe for now, but I still think he will develop more in a season or two and will be a very good backup point.

I think this is pretty accurate. It will probably take 2 defensive experts to replace a Bruce in his prime.

    No ones gonna stop kobe.

    He's gonna score 20 or 30 plus a night.

Making him work for those 20 or 30 is whats called defending Kobe

I agree with Bruno. It may take years to find a true 1 for 1 "replacement" for Bowen. In the meantime, it will be by committee........most teams don't have a Bowen anyhow. Next year, GHill as the "stopper" and Bowen as Assistant Coach.

Thats true but I was thinking more long the lines of Kobe being bigger and more powerful to back Hill down. That and having the advantage of having vision over the top of him.

Now the more I think about it I would love to see Hill guard Kobe in spurts this Thursday just to see what he could do.

    Hill could never guard Kobe.

If you want someone to be a Bowen type defender trade for Tayshaun.

Bruce Bowen has made 8 consecutive ALL NBA D teams. There are maybe, 15-16 other players in NBA history to make 8 or more All NBA D teams, even fewer to do it consecutively, probably fewer than 10 have made more. He's made 5 consecutive All NBA D first teams, probably no more than 5 or 6 players in NBA history have done that(one of them is named Tim Duncan). On top of that he lead the NBA in 3 point shooting...and is a pretty good shooter as well.

We probably won't be getting a true Bruce Bowen replacement any time soon, if ever again.

There is no such thing as a Bruce Bowen replacement.
