Nicole DeHuff, an actress who played Teri Polo's sister in Meet the Parents, has died of causes related to pneumonia. She was 30.
The actress died Feb. 16 in Hollywood, four days after she reportedly checked into a Los Angeles hospital, was misdiagnosed and sent home with orders to take Tylenol.
When her condition worsened, she returned to the hospital and was prescribed antibiotics for bronchitis and again sent home. Two days later, paramedics were called to her home after she collapsed, gasping for breath. By the time she reached the hospital, she was unconscious and passed away soon after.![]()
Meet the Parents marked DeHuff's feature-film debut. She played Deborah Byrnes, the sister whose wedding prompts Gaylord "Greg" Focker's (Ben Stiller) visit to girlfriend Pam Byrne's (Polo) childhood home to attend the ceremony and, as suggested by the le, meet the parents. Hilarity ensues.
In one of the movie's most memorable scenes, a Speedo-clad Stiller es a volleyball into DeHuff's face, breaking the bride-to-be's nose and cementing his own unpopularity.
DeHuff also appeared in 2004's Suspect Zero with Ben Kingsley and in an independent film called Killing Cinderella.
She also starred in the as yet unreleased independent film Unbeatable Harold, directed by her husband, Ari Palitz, and costarring Dylan McDermott and Gordon Michaels.
On the small screen, DeHuff had roles in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Court, The Practice, Dragnet, Without a Trace and Monk. She also appeared in the TV movie See Arnold Run.
A native of Oklahoma, DeHuff graduated from the Carnegie Mellon University acting program.
She is survived by Palitz, her husband of four years, as well as her sister, her mother and her father.
This is really sad.

That movie is Awsome! But sad news.
Thats what happens when insurance companies are slow to pay and doctors don't want to do the proper tests becaue the companies question them so much about it. It's ing sad.
This is why I don't trust doctors.
IMHO, lawyers across the country just heard the sound of money.
im sure there will be a lawsuit, then heatlh costs will go up even more.
Sad, suprising, she more than likely had the best doctors you can buy.
IMHO, if those were the best doctors money could buy she got ripped off.
Strange she went to the hospital first and not her GP.
Get a second opinion.
That's a damn shame. Someone's gonna have to pay up.
She was still so young.
Thats why I stay away from doctors too, I just let it all flush out of my system and so far I haven't gotten that seriously sick that required a hospital (knock on wood)
How does staying away from doctors make you healthier or less likely to die?
If you are a man over 50 you'd better go get your colon examined.
That's pretty pathetic anti-lawsuit posturing. She went to the same place TWICE, and they misdiagnosed her and sent her home. She died. I'll be if that happened to an immediate member of your family, you'd have called Maloney and Maloney already.Sad, suprising, she more than likely had the best doctors you can buy.
If ever there was a case that argues against lawsuit reform, it is this one. Tell me Tpark, do you just spit out conservative talking points because thats all you know? What on earth would posses you to think that this woman's family doesn't have every right to be compensated for the obvious bad health care when they were paying for services?
Lawsuit prevention that makes situatinos like this less punishable is going to do one thing, and one thing only. Lower the quality of your medical care.
the 2nd visit and misdiagnosis will seal the deal for the hospital and/or doctor(s). pretty hard to argue the doctor(s) excersised all reasonably and necessary treatments/precautions twice when they gave the patient tylenol and antibiotics, sent the paitent home twice, and the patient died two days later in the absence of negligence.
Where the do you get off on that?
First of all, no one has ever talked about lawsuit prevention. Take your nose out of your left-wing talking notes before you start throwing accusations around.
Lawsuit reform is supposed to take care of those IDIOTS who stick their hands under running lawn mowers to clear something, chop their fingers off, then sue the manufacturer for a faulty product.
Malpractice lawsuit reform works much the same way.
THIS case would not apply.
Lawsuit abuse makes only LAWYERS rich...not even the idiot plaintiffs get much after the lawyers get through with them.
Lawsuits are not meant for people to get "rich" on.
I pray that nothing ever happens to one of your family members because even you deserve justice.
Tell that to the lawyers who make loads of money abusing the system.
I'd hit it............well, not now obviously.
This is so sad and on a very related note... I would like to ask for some special prayers for my two year old niece. She was originally misdiagnosed with the flu and when they took her back to the hospital a week later they discovered that she had a severe case of pneumonia and she has been in the hospital ICU for 2 weeks now. As of yesterday, her condition has worsened and she has stopped breathing on her own, so everyone please please pray for her. Her name is Brianna. Thank you!!!
In our prayers.
sorry to hear that Jane. little girl is in our prayers for sure.
I hope she's OK, Jenn...consider it done...
