whatever happened to guys like stockton, malone, jordan etc.. who played practically every game every season?

i remember watching the nba and not even thinking about key people getting hurt, you could watch the whole playoffs year after year and key guys were virtually always there playing.ive never seen any season even close to this one when it comes to injuries.

    bynum(annually)
    ginobili(annually)
duncan(anually since a few years into his career)
    mcgrady(constantly)
    yao(will be soon prob)
    boozer
    daron
    oden(never even played)
    stoudemire
    nash(soft and fragile)
    terry
    jhoward
baron davis(half the warriors for that matter)
    garnett
    jnelson(rip)
    al jefferson
    dwade(last couple seasons)
    arenas(rip)
    mahinmi(never played)

WTF IS THE DEAL? ARE GUYS TODAY JUST MORE FRAGILE OR WHAT???

if anything this would help, if they put Tim on a low dose cycle of deca and hgh his knees would feel like a million bucks.

i mean its just getting to ridiculous levels, where virtually every team in the league has had major injury problems. milwaukee and golden state literally have like half their team missing, also i bet never in nba history has so many all-stars and key players been out for the season or long stretches than this year.

well atleast the playing field has been leveled. it's not like 4 teams suck this year because of injuries and everyone else is thriving. we should be thankful as spurs fans cuz if everybody else was healthy, we'd be wading in deep @%$!

I disagree with this one. Nash may play soft, but he is not that injury prone or "fragile".

    Games played since 2000:

    2000-01 ~ 70
    2001-02 ~ 82
    2002-03 ~ 82
    2003-04 ~ 78
    2004-05 ~ 75
    2005-06 ~ 79
    2006-07 ~ 76
    2007-08 ~ 81

he has missed only 33 out of 656 games during this period.

I'd assume VI was speaking of anabolics only. Corticosteroids like dexamethasone are actually of little use in Timmy's condition because corticosteroids (dexa, cortisone, etc.) impair collagen synthesis. Sure his knee might feel better, but it wouldn't treat the underlying etiology. HGH is actually a peptide hormone and chemically distinct from from the family of AAS.

Having said that, I believe that players are being held out more frequently due to our ability to better diagnose subtle problems. Back in the day, they would just play through pretty much any pain. Now we have an ability to tell exactly what the cause is and give the team physicians a clearer picture of whether or not a player should be sidelined or not.

It's similar to cancer diagnosis in a way. One has to ask: Has the proportion of cases gone up, or is it also a function of our ability to better detect the disease as well......

I think in general old school players were tougher and played thru injuries to a greater extent than today's crop. Just my opinion.

Today the calendar is kind of crazy: nothing during 6 months and the 82 games in 6 games with a ton of BtB games sometimes at 4000 km of distance. The RS should be longer with max 2 games a week idem for the POs. With this calendar its not surprising to have injuries + how can you ask to players to be clean ? not possible to play some many games drinking only water.
