More heart trouble for Oberto

The return of a familiar heart ailment will leave Fabricio Oberto sidelined for at least the next two games.
Oberto, 33, began feeling heart flutters after Tuesday's game against Atlanta. An EKG performed Wednesday confirmed a recurrence of atrial fibrillation, a condition that has sidelined Oberto twice before in his career, including for the first two games of this season.
Atrial fibrillation causes the heart to beat out of rhythm. To correct it, doctors use an electric shock to restore it to a normal rhythm.
Oberto will not be available tonight against the Clippers, and probably will not make the trip to New Orleans so that the team's medical staff can continue to evaluate him.
A 6-foot-10 center from Argentina, Oberto had fallen out of Gregg Popovich's front line rotation since the arrival of Drew Gooden. However, with Tim Duncan fighting sore knees, the Spurs can use all the big men they can muster.
"We're all worried about him, we all wish him the best," said Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, Oberto's fellow countryman and longtime friend. "It's a bad thing for him, because T.D.'s not in a great condition, and he's having the opportunity to play, to get on the court and to get the feel for the game that he kind of lost. Now he can't play, so it's a tough one."
This doesn't sound good especially since it keeps coming back. Hope he gets better soon.
Damn is that scary. Thoughts and prayers, his health matters more than anything.
I don't like that this may contribute to his career being shorter than it could be.
Get well soon, Fabricio.
Man that really sucks.Get better Fab, your health is the most important thing.
Wow-Poor Fab. Hope he gets better soon and it doesn't affect his career. But it certainly seems odd and disquieting because of the reccurence of this ailment. Our prayers are with you Fab.
Will the injuries ever end for the Spurs?
That's very scary..with guys like Gathers, Maravich, Lewis, Johnson and Duckworth, Oberto should definitely consider retiring. He's a great piece of the team, but his well being is more important.
Sucks
Pop has talked before about how Oberto might have to retire if he it keeps coming back. I wonder if this is the last straw.
Man that sucks
Get better, Fab
Scary stuff. I hope he can get the treatment he needs.
Prayers and best wishes to him and his family.
+1 Get well, Fabi.
Wow. Hopefully it doesnt have to come to that yet but if it does...what better way to send him in to retirement than with a championship.![]()
Absolutely. Get another one for Fabs!![]()
that sucks, get well Fab
ing Argies are soft.
First Manu, now Fab . . .
I´m scared. It keeps coming back![]()
Win one for the ticker!
He might hang 'em up after this season.
That sucks, Oberto's a true professional.
I hope he gets well soon. Prayers go out to him. We need him and his energy and locker room presence for the PO's.
Terrible news for Fab.
I hope he rests esay and gets well.
Life is bigger than basketball.
Damn it sucks.
If playing basketball is even slightly risky for him, Oberto should retire in the second. It's a no brainer after his long and very successful basketball career.
Get well soon Fabri.
Maybe Fab should walk away from the game. As Spurs fans we love the contributions he's made for us, especially in the 07 championship, but none of us wants him to cut years off his life trying to compete at the NBA level if his heart isn't in tip-top shape. Good luck and we wish you nothing but the best Fab.
Even if he retires, he will get his ring![]()
